American Idol fans believe that one of this season’s overhyped contestants does the bare minimum. Yet, they made it to the final three, and some are wondering how this happened. So, who is it, and why do they feel they have been subpar? Keep reading for more details.

American Idol Overhyped Contestant Does Bare Minimum

This season of American Idol has been hit or miss for viewers. Katy Perry left, and Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood came in to take her place. Fans do not feel that Carrie is constructive enough, plus they have deemed her boring. Yet, some have hope that she will grow into herself as a judge just like Katy did. Furthermore, there have been sound issues, and that has made the reality singing competition hard to enjoy. It is also becoming an issue that some of the best talent is being let go, while others are sliding through. That is the case with one of the finalists.

There are three finalists: Jamal Roberts, John Foster, and Breanna Nix. However, one of them has been allegedly overhyped and is doing the bare minimum to get by. That person is John, although many do adore him. For Disney night, he sang a lackluster version of “Almost There,” from The Princess and the Frog. John also sang “Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book and Kermit’s hit, “Rainbow Connection.” Viewers believed they were the wrong song choices, and he was not exciting enough. One fan had this to say:

  • As usual, John’s performances were a major bland snoozefest. At the same time, he probably could’ve gone on the stage last night and just puked, and the judges would’ve said it was charismatic. And the people voting for him would’ve said it was a great classic country style throw up that people have been missing. [sigh]

They noted that he was “overhyped” and clearly gave examples of why he should not be where he is. He did pay an emotional tribute to his late friend, so that may have helped.

He’s Not So Bad

Despite the criticism from American Idol fans, there are many who love and support John Foster. They think he has an amazing voice and deserves to be in the final three:

  • I love John and Jamal the best, but I enjoy them all. Everyone has different tastes. That’s what makes the world go around and all the various types of music.
  • I think he’s pretty enjoyable actually.
  • John is by far the best! I hope he wins. I love his voice. My favorite performance was his rendition of Randy Travis’s. I told you so.

Then, some had completely differing opinions and felt John was extremely lackluster:

  • As someone who likes country music he would be lucky to get a gig in Branson. And I also like Branson
  • As a person who generally prefers the country singers (im looking at you collin stow) I genuinely dont get the john hype..
  • He sounds like his doing impressions of a country singer. He’s not genuine

It will be up to America who wins this season of American Idol. However, if John wins, it could either be amazing or a complete fail.

What do you think of John, and is he doing the bare minimum to get by? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. I think John is a great singer and performer He reminds me of Clint Black when he started out I met Clint Black in Phoenix at a little Bar where new country music stars came to play I also Garth Brooks there John is very charismatic and down to earth

  2. Why start this …. Let his career begin and see where it leads him….. Why the negativity, the ” show” is over….the world is crazy enough.
