‘American Idol’ Fans Demand Better, Want Old Format Back
American Idol fans are demanding better, as they want the old format back. So, what is their biggest problem with the hit singing reality competition right now, and how can it be rectified easily? Keep reading for further details.
American Idol Fans Demand Better
This season of American Idol has been met with an immense amount of criticism. Fans do not care for the three-judge panel anymore as they feel that they are useless. After a certain point, America decides who stays and who goes, therefore, the purpose of the judge seems null. Plus, they are not happy with the acoustics and the sound that the show gets away with every week. Viewers cannot hear the lead vocals, and feel like everything becomes muffled. As for the judges, Carrie Underwood replaced Katy Perry, but it seems many are torn on her and her abilities. Now, fans have another problem, but this one makes a lot of sense.
Three singers are headed to the finale: Breanna Nix, Jamal Roberts, and John Foster. This comes after Thunderstorm Artis and Slater Nalley were sent home on Monday, May 12th. Fans do not like how the show no longer has two people in the finale facing off. This is completely understandable, as that was how it was for many years. The two finalists typically held hands and cheered for each other, hoping they would win, but were supportive either way. That is not happening, and fans are speaking out:
- I kind of miss when there were only two people in the finale. There was something just really endearing about watching two people really going head to head
Unfortunately, American Idol viewers will not get that this season, and it is somewhat disheartening. Many noted that they miss the way the show used to be. However, it is unclear if they mean the OG series or before Katy Perry exited. It initially ran for fifteen seasons on FOX before ABC picked it up two years after its run ended. So, is there any hope?

Fans Want A Return To The Old
American Idol fans want a return to the way the show used to be. They have been expressing their disdain at how the competition just is not the same. More so, the biggest question is how they can fix it so that it will have the same zest as years past:
- I miss the old format in general…this format just is not the same…
- I miss when the judges provided serious critiques.
- It feels like now they have this encyclopedia of the same words and phrases to recycle over and over with each performance
- I miss the single elimination from top 12 onwards in general. Best format was 24 -> 16 -> 12 -> single elimination the rest of the way
So, it appears that American Idol has a chance if the judges are harsher, plus the eliminations are different. As of now, viewers wish they would eliminate one at a time and not try to do more than that. If production listens to the viewers, things may improve.
