‘American Idol’ Why Fans Demand Harry Connick Jr’s Return As Judge
Harry Connick Jr. is known for various projects over the years, but many fans remember his time as a judge on American Idol. In fact, some fans have recently been sharing why they think he was a good fit on the show. This comes out as Connick Jr. has been putting his judging background to good use.
Harry Connick Jr. Has Actually Had Various Roles With American Idol
Connick Jr. is known for his prominent career as a singer and actor. He has contributed to the soundtracks of various films, like When Harry Met Sally… and The Godfather III. As an actor, he is also known for roles on projects like Hope Floats, Independence Day, and Will & Grace.
However, Connick Jr. has also established himself as something of a television personality. He hosted his own talk show, Harry, from 2016 to 2018.
Throughout the years, Connick Jr.’s also appeared on various seasons of American Idol. Appearing in various roles, he’s been a judge, a mentor, and even a guest performer. In 2023, he also appeared as a judge on Australian Idol.
Connick Jr. certainly made an impression on fans of the long-running competition series. Recently, American Idol fans on social media have shared they’d like to see him, or at least someone like him, return as a judge.
As one fan wrote on social media, “The judges are boring and are making the show unwatchable. They say very little that is interesting, insightful, or educational. They repeat, ramble, and rave. About 20% of the show is on them yet they infect 100% of it. Get more like Harry Connick. He was insightful.”
For his part, Connick Jr. hasn’t given up on musical reality shows. He’s recently taken part of the Australian version of The Piano, which offers pianists a chance to showcase their talents. According to a press release, “But all is not what it seems. What the pianists don’t know, is that they are being observed by two renowned expert musicians, multi-award-winning musical powerhouse Harry Connick, Jr. and one of Australia’s greatest classical concert pianists, Andrea Lam.”
If They Can’t Get Connick Jr. Back, Some Fans Will Settle For Someone Like Him
“Hidden away during each performance and watching every note played, they’ve been tasked with choosing a pianist from each location to mentor. They will then prepare them for a life changing performance at one of Australia’s most revered stages, the Sydney City Recital Hall.”
Meanwhile, American Idol fans have been debating on what to make of the current judges. Some agreed the current line-up doesn’t compare to earlier seasons.

Others thought the current panel was doing just fine and came to their defense. Some comments included:
- “They’re not great during auditions and Hollywood, but once voting rounds start they’re completely useless and will just repeat the same ten or so phrases collectively ad infinitum.”
- “I just scroll Reddit during the judges comments because they mean absolutely nothing.”
- “I enjoy Carrie Underwood personally…I also enjoy Katy Perry…that’s not the problem…I’m sick of the decisions made by voting audience…”
- “The number of viewers have been down in comparison to The Voice. The differences between the repartee of the judges on American Idol and The Voice are extreme. The judges on the Voice have almost too much air play, but they are more relatable and engaging than those on American Idol.”
