‘American Idol’ Fans Confused By Carrie Underwood’s ‘Odd’ Response
American Idol fans are confused by Season 4 winner and current judge Carrie Underwood’s “odd” response. She has caught a lot of heat for her judging ways and how she contradicts herself. So, what response did she give that was uncomfortable for viewers? Keep reading for further details.
Fans Confused By Carrie Underwood’s ‘Odd’ Response
Carrie Underwood has been hit or miss for fans this season of American Idol. She came in to replace Katy Perry and seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Not only was she on Idol, but she was the Season 4 winner. Therefore, Carrie had all of the knowledge and experience necessary to succeed and help the contestants. Unfortunately, some do not care for her or her input. More than that, they do not think the judges are necessary after a certain point on the show, especially since America takes over. Carrie has had some interesting opinions, and fans have called her out on this.
On the Sunday, May 11th episode, Slater Nalley sang “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King. It was Disney night, and the contestants sang hit songs from iconic films. However, one viewer pointed out how Carrie did not talk about Slater’s performance. Rather, she addressed his personal life, and that was deemed “odd”:
- Did anyone find Carries response to Slater’s performance odd? She was basically like I learned something new about you which is cool, but said nothing on his singing? Anyone else find that super rude and weird?
They added that there was nothing wrong with Carrie, but how she “judged” Slater was very strange.

After he performed, American Idol fans immediately praised him as the winner of the show:
- winner i’m calling it!
- literally my fav
- This dude is gonna win a Grammy one day
They loved what he brought and how he put his own spin on the hit, moving song, with some saying he would make Elton John proud. So, did others agree that Carrie Underwood sounded “odd” with her assessment?
Hated It
American Idol fans believed that when the judges do not directly address the vocals, it likely means that they did not like them. Yet, they do not want to overtly say this, so they take the diplomatic route. This could have been the case with Carrie Underwood, although she looked very moved by Slater’s singing. Others felt that she was consistently harsh on him, which was also an issue because they could not understand why:
- I feel like when they don’t actually talk about the vocals that means they didn’t like it but they don’t wanna say it
- I haven’t really liked her judging since the live shows. I feel like she always says a bunch of nothing. To me, Luke has the most thoughtful responses
- She’s always tough on him. It’s weird
- Very weird. But Carrie hates Slater and Mattie so it’s not surprising
One noted that they did not care for Katy Perry at first, and then she grew on them. That is the hope with Carrie if she sticks around for another season.
