‘Survivor 48’ Mary Zheng Talks David Standing At Tribal Council
David Kinne recently gave fans a memorable moment on Season 48 of Survivor, where he stood up during a tribal council. Following this, other Survivor alumni have talked about the moments. This includes Mary Zheng herself, who proved to be at the center of the story.
David Kinne Proved To Be Part Of A Moment His Fellow Survivor 48 Castaways Won’t Soon Forget
On Survivor 48, Kinne was known for his “Strong Five” alliance that helped him through a few voting rounds. Through his time on the show, viewers saw him as part of the Civa, Lagi, and Niu Nai tribes. On Day 17, Kinne was ultimately the 10th voted out castaway.
Kinne was also part of a memorable moment this season. When Mary Zheng was voted out, Kinne, a jury member, stood up at the tribal council.
Kinne was already on his feet before Zheng’s torch was snuffed out by host Jeff Probst. At the time, it’s believed he stood up to pay tribute to his former alliance mate. He continued to remain standing as she was told, “The tribe has spoken,” only sitting down after she left the set.
Many of the other castaways could be seen laughing at the moment. In particular, Star Toomey could be seen covering her mouth, as if trying to stifle a laugh.
Mary Zheng Later Spoke About What Was Going Through Her Mind During Kinne’s Standing Ovation
Toomey also took to social media to discuss the moment, writing, “Somebody tell this man to sit tf down I’m trying so hard not to laugh #Survivor48.” However, she also showed admiration for standing by Zheng. She later retweeted a post with Kinne containing the message, “If I send you this just know I respect u.”
In a later post, however, Star showed she still thought the moment was funny. As she shared, “We need more standing David memes this is TV GOLD.”

Zheng herself recently spoke out about the moment with Parade. Talking about what was going through her head, she noted, “I wanted to cry out of sadness when I got voted out. And I did not expect that I would be crying out of f–king laughter at David standing up. I had heard about that moment.”
“Honestly, I did not see that when it was happening. I was out of body when it was all going down. And I had heard people be like, ‘Yo, David stood up,’ and I’m like, ‘The f–k? Like, stood up and sat down? What’s going on?'”

“And to watch him literally stand up, as if I’m his fallen comrade. I love David so much. That was hilarious. David has always been…he’s got a lot of heart. And in that moment, he was feeling it. So, yes, f–king hilarious. And also, Star trying to hold back her laughter, trying to be like as polite as she could, literally, while in her mind, thinking, ‘God damn David, sit your ass down!'”
