Donnie Wahlberg Opens Up About Grieving Blue Bloods
It turns out, it’s not just show fans who are mourning the loss. The cast and crew loved making the show, and many stars like Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck wanted it to continue. Recently, Wahlberg opened up about the grieving process he went through after the show was canceled.
Opening up to Deadline recently, Donnie Wahlberg said: “It’s fascinating, right? Because we all mourn Blue Bloods, and still do, me as well. And I understand the audience, and your readers’ feelings because I share them.”
Wahlberg continued, adding: “It’s very emotional to say goodbye, and when this show came along, I had just kind of turned the page and said, ‘Alright, it looks like it’s not gonna happen for Blue Bloods.’ We were hoping that somehow, someway, somebody would come, and we would continue to make our show.”
Wahlberg Moving On With New Spinoff
While it won’t completely satisfy all of the fans who hoped that Blue Bloods would continue, the upcoming spinoff featuring Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Danny Reagan is sure to act as something of a band-aid for the fanbase.
Boston Blue premieres in the fall, and it will see Danny Reagan tackling a new city. Speaking of how he approached the new spinoff following Blue Bloods getting the ax, Wahlberg said: “Then this show came my way, and I had to take a beat to look at it in the right context. In other words, it was like I kept looking back to Blue Bloods, and suddenly I was like ‘Wait a minute, I can look forward to Boston Blue?'”
