‘American Idol’ Carrie Underwood Speaks On Simon Cowell’s Critique
American Idol welcomed new judge Carrie Underwood this season. Since she won a prior season of the show and went on to find enormous success, many felt she would be great. American Idol Judge Carrie Underwood Breaks Silence On Simon Cowell’s Words
American Idol judge Carrie Underwood found success after appearing on and winning the competition twenty years ago. She is one of the most successful women in country music. After finding tons of success musically she is now a judge on the show that helped make her what she is today.
In a new social media post by the hit singing competition, Carrie is responding to former host Simon Cowell’s rather harsh critique of her. What did he say and how did she respond to it?
Carrie is looking back into the past and sharing her thoughts on what Simon had to say about her when she sang Rascal Flatts’ song “Bless The Broken Road” in 2005. At the time, Cowell said her performance was “very good, other than the fact that the performance was a little robotic. You sang it beautifully.”
What does Carrie think about his somewhat harsh words? She said it really could have been worse. She said,
“It was Top 5. It was like, ‘OK, you know, I don’t know if it’s the time to go out on a limb and do anything crazy.’ So (you’re) picking something that you’re comfortable with, and then trying to, like, work with the staging. But then also, I consider myself a vocalist. I want to sing things well, and if I ever think too much about what I’m doing on stage, I feel like my vocals suffer. So, he was not wrong in his assessment.
Underwood went on to say that it was kind of a compliment but also not. She knows it could have been worse. Carrie said Simon has given out much harsher critiques to other contestants and also to her.
She concluded by doing robot moves and asked him if it looked a little more robotic to him.
Insiders Share Carrie Was Not Top Choice
Recently, insiders shared that Carrie Underwood was not really the show’s top choice for the next American Idol judge. Sources shared that if the show could have their dream choice for a new judge, it would be Luke Combs.
However, they went on to say that while Combs is the full package, him being a judge will never happen as long as there are two other male judges. They want to keep it diverse and have at least one female on the judging panel.
Some fans are not happy with Carrie as a judge after it became known she pushed hard for the three-hour faith-based episode on Easter. Many also feel like all the judges have become too soft and they need someone more like Simon Cowell.
