‘Survivor 48’ Mary Zheng Reveals Death Threats After Elimination

Survivor fans recently saw Mary Zheng get voted off the show. Since then, Zheng has recently spoke out against the reaction to the news, including fans making death threats. During this time, Zheng also talked about other castaways, even revealing an emotional moment with one in particular.
Mary Zheng’s Time Recently Came To An End On Survivor 48
Zheng, a substance abuse counselor, was introduced to fans of the franchise through Survivor 48, which premiered back in February. This season, which filmed back in 2024, is shot on the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji.
During her time, Zheng found herself on various tribes. Originally on Vula, she began making alliances after switching to Lagi. However, she then found herself on Niu Nai after the tribes merged, even being the one who coined the tribe’s name.

However, fans saw Zheng leave the show after getting voted off during the episode airing May 7, 2025. The development did not sit well with fans of Zheng, who’ve been voicing their reactions.
While speaking with The New York Post, Zheng herself discussed the fallout, revealing that they have gone too far with their criticisms. The Survivor alum even revealed that some of her fellow castaways have received death threats.
Zheng shared, “When you’re watching a show, you wanna be entertained, right? But when you’re playing the game, you wanna feel safe, you wanna feel seen and you wanna win. And those are two completely different objectives.”
As Zheng continued, “I think everybody brings into the game everything from their past. Their strengths, their traumas, their egos. Everyone is literally playing the best that they can. Nobody should be getting death threats.”
Zheng also assured that she herself had not received death threats. As she explained, “Oh no. Not me. No, I’m not talking about myself. The fans have been really great for me.”
Zheng admitted feeling ostracized on the show from other castaways. However, she doesn’t hold it against them. She shared, “I have a lot of grace for myself, but that means I also extend that grace to the people I played the game with.”
Zheng Revealed She Got An Apology From One Of The Other Castaways
“Everybody was playing for the first time and everybody was just trying to make the moves that they thought were best for them. And I don’t want anybody to think that I’m holding anything against anyone for the way that they played. Everyone’s just out there trying their best.”
Zheng mused about what it was like being on the outside of an alliance that refused to turn on the other. She even revealed a moment that happened off-screen, noting, “I knew that these people wanted to play more. Like, I had a conversation with Kyle [Fraser] that wasn’t shown where I was like, ‘Dude, are you proud of the game that you’re playing right now? Like, is this how you imagined you’d be playing? I know you wanted to do more, so do it.’”

“Yeah, I think people just kind of missed the moment. Last vote, it could have been the moment. This vote, it could’ve been the movement. But for whatever reason… well, I know the reason. I think they just really had genuine connections out there. And I don’t think that viewers understand how difficult it makes it. I don’t know how difficult it makes it because I didn’t really have any connections out there.”
Zheng also touched on getting an apology from one of her former castmates, original Vula tribemate Saiounia Hughley. As she shared, “Sai called me after the game and apologized, and I accepted her apology. We’re good.”
