Blake Shelton Teases New Album
Country singer Blake Shelton released his last full album in 2021. Body Language featured the hit song “Happy Anywhere,” which Blake sang with his wife, Gwen Stefani.
In late 2024, he released the song “Texas,” which he revealed was the first single of his upcoming album. He performed the song at the Academy of Country Music this month.
His new album is titled For Recreational Use Only and dropped this week on May 9th. It includes another duet with Gwen Stefani and some fans are concerned the lyrics might hit a little too close to home for the couple.
Gwen Stefani Opens Up About New Blake Shelton Breakup Song
Gwen Stefani wrote one of the most beloved breakup songs of the 1990s when she was with the band No Doubt. “Don’t Speak” was reportedly written after her and the band’s bass player, Tony Kanal.
“Don’t speak, I know just what you’re saying’ / So please stop explainin / Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts,” she sang on the track.
A clip of her new duet with Blake Shelton was posted online and the lyrics have fans asking questions. Their previous song “Happy Anywhere” was about a couple in love, but the new song is about a toxic relationship that just won’t end.
“I hear you’re hangin’ on the other side of this town /Somehow, that messes me up, wonder if that picture of us / Is still hangin’ on that paisley wall in your room / Or did you take it down?”
“I should’ve let go by now / But I keep hangin’ on to every word you said / Like some old faded tee / Wish I could take you off, but you keep hangin’ on to me.”
Rumors have persistently swirled for years that there is trouble in Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s marriage. The lyrics further add to that narrative.
But according to The U.S. Sun, Gwen Stefani shut down speculation. She said in an Instagram video that the song called “Hangin’ On,” wasn’t about her marriage.
“That song was written not about us,” she said. Her husband said the same thing to Entertainment Tonight. He told the outlet that the song is not “art imitating life.”
