‘American Idol’ Carrie Underwood Takes Swipe At Katy Perry Again?
Both Carrie Underwood and Katy Perry are famous singers, but they are also known to reality show fans as judges on American Idol. In fact, Underwood recently had a conversation concerning her predecessor. This also wasn’t her first time speaking about a recent story concerning Perry.
Carrie Underwood Effectively Took Over For Katy Perry Following Her American Idol Exit
Underwood got her big break on American Idol when she ended up the winning contestant during the fourth season. However, she recently returned to the show during Season 23, but now as a judge.
For her part, Perry first joined the show as a judge during the sixteenth season in 2018. She would eventually leave the show in 2024, with Underwood effectively taking over her seat on the show.
However, as previously reported, Perry has also recently made headlines after she was part of Blue Origin’s all-women space flight. Joining figures like Gayle King, Perry made her trip to space on April 14, 2025.
Underwood herself was recently asked about Perry’s trip during a conversation with Access Hollywood. When asked if she would like to go to space, she shared, “The day I go to space will be when the good Lord decides my time on Earth here is done and he takes me home.” She continued, “So, that will be the day I leave this Earth.”
Fellow judge Lionel Richie also talked about Perry’s trip to space. He shared,” My first impression was, ‘Get out of the capsule.’ It’s not that anything was going to go wrong. It’s just that I don’t like the phrase, ‘Never happened before.’ So I said, You go right on girl.'”
Katy Perry’s Former Co-Hosts Also Had A Few Words About The Story
Similar to Underwood, Richie also admitted that he woudn’t want to make such a trip himself. As he shared, “I’m having trouble navigating Earth and gravity. Just walking straight every day is a daunting task at the point in my life.”
This isn’t the first time Underwood has talked about Perry’s trip to space. She shared similar sentiments with E! News, where she shared, “I’m good on the ground.” However, she also called the idea “crazy” and “amazing.”

For his part, Luke Bryan also shared his thoughts with the publication. He noted, “I remember when I heard the news that she was going I was like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy that you’re getting to go.’ But now when she got back safe I was like, ‘Oh my god, wow. Awesome.’”
Bryan even admitted that he caught up with Perry after her trip to space through a text message. He noted, “I’ll be interested to hear her version of it. She was just like, ‘It was just totally crazy.’ She didn’t really elaborate more than that. But I’m just glad everybody made it home safe.”
