American Idol fans are not loving this season of the show. Fans often discuss the good, the bad and the ugly on social media. This time, they were not complaining about judges but rather the show’s format and how they feel ‘speed dating’ is not working out well for the singing competition. What is everyone saying? Keep reading to get all the details.

American Idol Fans Not Happy With Current Season

American Idol fans are not happy with many things about the current season. Fans have complained about the three-hour faith-based episode that was aired. Many have also complained about Carrie Underwood as a judge. Now, they are taking to social media to complain about the format the show has been using.

This season, fans are feeling like the show is being rushed. Some feel like they spend way too much time on auditions and need to focus more on the top ten and their backstories. One fan noted on social media that they love this season’s contestants, but they are sad they only get three weeks with them.

Fans used that as a starting point to talk about many things, including possible winners for the current season. They also talked about the show seeming like a popularity contest instead of the competition it used to be. Fans vote based on social media presence, etc. Some believe judges seem to have little impact on the outcome these days.

Here is what some fans had to say:

  • “It’s a popularity contest. At this point I wouldn’t be shocked if all 3 of them went home next week. The “judges” have become powerless and “talent” means nothing of you don’t have the following. John or Mattie can win it all.”
  • “Yet, somehow, I have a feeling John is gonna end up winning. The country vote goes far… 🙄”
  • “If they really need such a limited run for the show in this era, than I’d prefer they just started with less contestants (took less to Hollywood, and less to Disney, no platinum circus, and just gave us a top 10 that they hand over to “America votes”) and go back to 1 per week eliminations and add in the back stories once America starts voting to fill in the time. Eliminating 4 per week once we finally get to lives is just absurd after they wasted all that time during auditions by bringing in everyone’s entire city, repeating the same back stories over and over, etc. American Idol ABC Speed Dating is just not it.”

Some Fans Threatening To Boycott

There are numerous fans who have loved seeing American Idol winner and country superstar Carrie Underwood step in as a judge. However, there are also some who do not like her here. In fact, many of them are threatening to boycott the show if she returns for another season.

Part of their distaste for her stems from her pushing for the show to do the three-hour faith-based episode. This special aired on Easter Sunday. Insiders had previously spoken and said some crew members felt it was inappropriate and did not support it. However, just as many did think it was a wonderful idea.

Carrie Underwood has mentioned before how hard it is for her to express her faith since moving to Los Angeles. This special gave her that chance to sing it loud and proud.

What do you think about this season of the show? Do you think that Carrie is doing a good job or does she need to go?

Do you agree that ‘speed dating’ is not working for American Idol?

Stay tuned for more updates.
