Bachelor alum Demi Burnett is opening up more about her time on the show. She not only appeared in The Bachelor but also appeared in Bachelor in Paradise. Fans first met her during Colton Underwood’s season of the show. She then went on to appear in both Seasons 6 and 7 of Paradise. She did get engaged to her girlfriend on the show, but they ended things. Now, she’s talking about why she chose to drink so much while on the show. What did she have to share with fans? Keep reading to get all the details.

Bachelor  Alum Demi Burnett Shares Reasons Behind So Much Drinking

Bachelor alum Demi Burnett is much different now than she was back then for many reasons. One thing she shared is that she has been sober for four years now. However, during her time on the show, that was not the case at all.

Burnett spoke with People about her time on the show, her dating life and also her diagnosis that changed her life. Some fans do not understand how she became so different after being on The Bachelor.

Demi explained that she agrees with them and that she is different. She understands herself more. Plus, while on the show, she said, “I was consuming copious amounts of alcohol during The Bachelor, so it should be a great example of seeing how someone can use alcohol to mask.”

In the end, she was drinking to mask her autism, which at that time had not been diagnosed yet.

Demi also shared that she thinks viewers believe she was playing into a little bit of what they wanted her to be.

She went on to say, “It’s so clearly someone putting on a show than now when I’m being vulnerable and open and raw and real and uncomfortable with all of it. Now it’s seen as putting on an act. It’s ironic. You can’t help but laugh.”

Getting Her Diagnosis Changed Her Life

In 2022, Demi was diagnosed with autism. Knowing her diagnosis has helped her understand the way that she is. She went on to say that many think a person with autism can’t handle being on reality television. Demi says that is not the case.

The Bachelor alum says being on reality television is great because, for the first time, a person with autism feels like they are getting support. Demi said, “Getting all that support on The Bachelor, it was the greatest. I have never been more supported in my life than I am on reality TV. You have people waiting on you hand and foot to get anything you ever need. Reality TV producers are literally the most support you could ever get. I was sobbing when I had to leave, and it wasn’t for Colton.”

Demi continues to thrive on reality television and loves that she keeps getting asked to do different shows. Most recently, Burnett was on Hulu’s Got to Get Out and she revealed she will also appear on Netflix’s Pop the Balloon.

Right now, Demi remains single, although she does want to find someone to be with. She admits she’s still bisexual, so she could be with a man or a woman. However, she believes a woman would most likely treat her better. So far, there is no talk of her returning to The Bachelor franchise.
