‘When Calls The Heart’ Season 13 Includes Return Of ‘Old Friends’: Could Paul Greene Return?
Hearties have been waiting for any news on When Calls The Heart Season 13. Although the Hallmark series has already been renewed, it will not start filming in the Vancouver area until this summer. However, the new showrunner, Joy Gregory, has already talked about some potential storylines for the upcoming season.

New When Calls The Heart Showrunner Talks About Season 13
The When Calls The Heart writers are working on Season 13. Moreover, when Hearties hear what the plans are, they are quick to try to figure out what is happening. For example, in a recent interview with new showrunner Joy Gregory, on The Official Hearties Aftershow, she mentioned something that has fans buzzing. Here is what she revealed.
We’ll see a return of a few old friends and meet some new ones too, because you know stories in Hope Valley can just go on and on forever.
However, she did not name names or characters. But, one name that keeps popping up, especially since that podcast is Paul Greene. Dr. Carson Shepherd was last on the series in Season 8. However, the next season he was not back. Many surmised it was because Paul’s fiancée was expecting their son Austin in the Los Angeles area. Moreover, it was during the worldwide lockdowns. Therefore, the strict quarantines required that actors could not leave the Canadian set.
However, now there seems to be an opportunity for a new doctor to come to Hope Valley. Little Jack has diabetes and the Season 12 finale cliffhanger showed Elizabeth, Little Jack, Nathan, and Allie rush to Cape Fullerton. This location has good diabetes care. This can help Little Jack as he needs good care.
One theory is that perhaps Carson has spent the past four years learning about diabetes and perhaps he could head up a clinic in Hope Valley. The writers are going to need to find a way to get their lead back to Hope Valley. Moreover, this could be a good reason that the town of Hope Valley would have two doctors.
Furthermore, this could be an opportunity for Faith and Carson to reunite. Isn’t it time that this couple to reunite? Right now, no one has confirmed anything, or teased his return. But, Paul is starring in the upcoming Hallmark movie, Love In The Clouds. This is a big reason why Paul, who has previously shared that he wants to return to Hope Valley, is on everyone’s mind as one of the “old friends” returning to the series.
There Are Other Possible ‘Old Friends’ That Could Return
As new When Calls The Heart showrunner Joy Gregory shared what Hearties should expect next season, she mentioned “old friends” returning. Another big name that is on the lips of Hearties is Brooke Shields. She portrays Charlotte Thornton, Elizabeth’s late husband’s mother. She owns a boarding house in Cape Fullerton. Depending on whether the writers choose to have a time jump, it seems possible that the actress could reprise her role.
