American Idol fans are comparing Canaan’s gospel to country singers. Why is this? Well, there is a lot to go over. Canaan has been known for doing gospel music. However, a bunch of people think he needs to step outside of his comfort zone. This is something he has struggled with the entire season. Canaan James Hill is a talented competitor on American Idol. However, he has limited himself to one genre. Canaan sings gospel music. This is what he is all about and what he loves doing. However, when you are on a competition show, you need to do things you normally would not, so you can stand out. Canaan is having a hard time doing this. The judges suggested that he do something that will make their heads explode. They know he is talented and can hit crazy notes. However, they want to see him do something else when it comes to this.

American Idol fans are not seeing the difference between what Canaan is doing and what the country singers on the show do.
I know some people are tired of Canaan only singing gospel or religious music and are making arguments against him. But couldn’t the same arguments be applied to a country singer that is only going to be singing country music all season long? Why does Canaan get punished for it but not a country singer? Is it being country music is a more popular genre, so it gets excused?
However, this is not the issue. The issue is that he does not do anything different, and his performances sound the same.
It’s bc every single song he sings he makes it stylistically the same. He’s stuck in a box and they want him to think outside of it. It’s not necessarily that it’s only gospel, it’s the way he’s singing it. He makes every single song he sings sound the exact same. It’s like okay we get it you can sing like that, but what ELSE can you do?
It seems as though not a lot of people are understanding why it is not okay for Canaan to sing gospel when the country singers only sing country. However, a lot of arguments have happened about how the country singers have sung other songs and twisted their voices to surprise people.
