‘American Idol’ Fans Flip On Josh King After Last Performance
First impressions are important, but things can always change. Someone can eventually win people over and a fan-favorite can always fall out of favor. Recently, this has been proven to be the case for Josh King, a contestant fans have gotten to know on American Idol‘s Season 23.
Josh King Went From Airport Pianist To American Idol Star
King is a contestant from Matthews, North Carolina. He certainly has a background in music, as he’s known for working as an airport pianist.
However, King has been putting his vocal cords to work as a recent contestant on American Idol. Some of King’s performances on the show have included “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz, “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John, “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker, and “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.
As previously reported, King hasn’t received the warmest reception from fans. Even during his original audition, he received a “no” from Carried Underwood, but was saved by votes from Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
At the time, King himself shared he was surprised he even made it to the Top 14. He even admitted his performance of the famous Rick Astley song, which gained a second life as an internet meme, was an attempt to have a sense of humor about the situation. Speaking with USA Today, King shared, “I was convinced I was going home, and that’s why I did ‘Never Gonna Give You Up.’”
However, King proved himself once again by making it to both the Top 12 and the Top 10, especially after his recent performance of “All By Myself.” In fact, King has even started to win over some of his previous naysayers. Thanks to this, his previous fans have also felt they could be more vocal.
Fans Have Really Been Coming Out Of The Woodwork For Josh King
Taking to social media, one fan wrote, “Josh picked a perfect song tonight! Also I just wanted to say you have been one of the only ones who I actually connect with and I can see your personality shine through.”
“You’re you in the most authentic & best way! Anyone would be lucky to have a funny, extremely talented and nice friend like you.”
“I don’t think you will ever be alone again. You really killed it tonight! I love seeing you shine behind the piano and use your voice! That’s why your OG audition was my fav!”
As Josh continues further on in the show, many fans are wondering how he’ll make use of the exposure. Fans have also been sharing their well-wishes after his most recent performance. Some comments include:
