Carrie Underwood is the newest addition to the judging panel. She replaced Katy Perry after she decided to take a step back from the show to focus on her music career. Carrie is the only judge who has won a season of American Idol. However, this has also led to some viewers not liking her as an addition to the panel. There is a lot of controversy on this issue. It is said that Carrie is ruffling feathers when it comes to the way she wants to do things on the show. However, a lot of people love her for her honesty.

American Idol viewers think the judges are told to back off from producers’ favorite contestants. They have noticed this quite a bit recently.
- Carrie is not impressed on rock night. I LOVE her honesty. The contestants are not picking the right songs and are boring. Can’t they google Carrie and guns and roses????
- Dude, it was so obvious last year when the judges spoke about missing lyrics mid song and then when Emmie missed lyrics they were dead quiet about it. The producers have their favourites and it feels like the judges are told to not be so critical.
- Not sure I agree totally as this was Rock & Roll Hall of Fame night, however, in general, the song choices are universally bad. It’s honestly mind boggling. This is not a “who’s the best singer competition,” it’s a popularity contest.
- I think the judges are scared to criticize so they don’t influence the votes.
If this is happening, fans are not going to be happy.
It seems as though fans are not happy with how some contestants get little to no criticism. Not only this, but they are always sent through to the next round with no hesitation. Fans were surprised to see Baylee Littrell go home as they thought he was a favorite as well. Maybe they do not save them all.
