‘American Idol’ Fans Threaten To Boycott If Carrie Underwood Returns

American Idol fans are threatening to boycott the popular singing competition if Carrie Underwood returns as a judge. Many have not been happy with her influence on the show, and it’s even worse after the faith-based special aired on Easter. What are fans saying about Underwood? Keep reading to get all the details.
American Idol Fans Not Happy With Carrie Underwood
American Idol fans are voicing their displeasure with Carrie Underwood as the new judge on the singing competition. Many fans feel the show is different since she came on board. Some already had a bad opinion of her, but then the first-ever faith-based episode furthered their distaste for her.
An insider spoke with The Sun and revealed that many fans are threatening to boycott the show if Carrie returns next season as a judge. It was previously revealed that some of the crew were not happy with the three-hour faith-based episode and felt it was inappropriate.
The insider said, “I’ve heard people on set say that Carrie’s influence is ruining the legacy of the show. Things started great with her this season but the longer she’s been a judge, the more feathers she has ruffled.”
They also shared that Luke Bryan always has her back if someone is unhappy with her on set. He makes sure she has what she wants and is her biggest supporter.
According to the report, there has been a significant drop in ratings since the controversial faith-based episode aired on Easter. Carrie was the one who reportedly pushed the hardest for the episode to happen. She has expressed how difficult it is to share her faith openly since moving to Los Angeles with her family.
The insider said, “It was really important for her for the show to go through with it. Lionel and Luke were on board, but Carrie was the most vocal about wanting it to make sure it happened. She felt it was important to have gospel night after moving to LA where she feels she can’t be as open about her religion and beliefs.”
Not Everyone Feels That Way About Carrie
While many fans are unhappy with Carrie, not everyone feels that way. There are some who believe Carrie is a welcome change. She has a lot of support from fellow supporters of her faith, who welcomed the special three-hour episode on Easter.
During the special, Carrie stunned viewers everywhere with her incredible, heartfelt rendition of “How Great Thou Art.” Her powerful performance gained attention all over the world.
So far, there is no word if Carrie plans to return to American Idol next season. Some feel having the former winner on board is a great change.
Last Monday, the contestants were narrowed down to the final 14. The judges were able to save six of them, but sadly, there were still four who went home.

I do not like the religious tone the show has taken. Carrie seems to want to make it a Christian show. I wonder if there are any non-Christian or even non-religious contestants. Would they be welcome based purely on their vocal talent?
I agree. And not a fan of her as a judge. Not the role for her. The show is about the contestants, not her singing or trying to be center stage.
Then don’t watch! Easy solution! God is the way!
Amen! You go, Carrie!
Amen! She is a refreshing welcome! I think the three judges are great as a team!!
Exactly!! Jesus said we who follow Him will be persecuted in His name; therefore, she is doing exactly what the word of God says!!!
Agree
I know, if you don’t like it, don’t watch. There’s several people that do like Carrie as a judge, I’m not crazy about Luke but I like the show!!! As far as it having a Christian theme, there are plenty of none Christians that participate, soooo
Agree for sure!
There have been decades of American Idol with tons of non-faith contestants- One of the genres that has been ignored the most is faith based music. Does it threaten you to hear faith based music? Perhaps there is a spiritual force dealing with you, trying to get your attention. In any case, I bet you can change the channel or touch the power button if you wanted to do so. I believe it’s time faith-based music gets a turn. I promise, it won’t hurt anybody.
She’s been great! You people need to boycott yourselves and your cry baby ways!
What if someone was gay on the show and were talking about their relationship? I’ll bet you would be a crybaby then!
This article is nonsense…
religion-based is not a good thing maybe a half an hour would be all right but having Carrie Underwood as a judge I think shows favoritism from the past winning contestant and that doesn’t go good for the show. I don’t think she needs to have center stage again that’s what she’s trying to reach for she’s not as popular as he used to be being in the center light is what she was and that’s what you will be it has been great voice but she needs to move on and quit trying to take the spotlight again she had her 15 minutes of fame
To each his own, do as you wish!
it was Easter sunday for goodness sake!!! Why not have faith based songs on that day, and not all the contestants sang “religious” songs. I like Carrie as a judge and its not all about her lile a saw in some complaints. she of all those judges get what the singers are going thru.
She’s awesome judge. One day if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. He says to you depart from me I never knew you. You will wish you had listened to lot’s gospel music and preaching and accepting Christ as your personal Savior.God Bless you ❤️🙏😇
I’m not a church goer even though I believe in God, Jesus & Mary & I loved her performance,it was beautiful & heartfelt….that being said I also don’t believe in having any type of religion being forced on anyone any type o way so if that’s what she’s “trying” to do by wanting to change the direction of American Idol I say 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻. She can produce her own Christian show if she wants.
Nothing was forced on anyone. As others have said not everyone sang a faith- based song.
Also, as others have said it was Easter Sunday and I thought it was very appropriate and I see nothing wrong with it.
It was a beautiful evening with wonderful songs and on the appropriate night. She is not in control of the show she can give her opinion or suggestions, but somebody else is making the decisions.
It was just one night so just get over yourselves and enjoy the rest of the show. Boycotting is stupid. It’s really not gonna do much good. She’s a beautiful and talented soul.
yes I agree, beautiful voice and beautiful song.
I really enjoyed the show , it was Easter and I do not believe everyone sang religious songs. But if they did and you do not like you can turn the channel. No one is forcing anyone to watch. Christians have a right to celebrate Easter.
amen to that 🙏
I loved it! People need to stop bullying and appreciate differences.
I, myself, am not a fan of Carrie. I also was not a fan of the Easter show. Too much, too long. Singers didn’t act as if they were having a good time either. I prefer a different judge come in. It has nothing to do with religion or love of God. I’m also noticing the judges are not critiquing the singers a much as they used to. This is a competition for the singers to sing different genres. It’s not about Carrie. Focus on the singers more.
That’s YOUR opinion but it’s NOT correct. The contestants didn’t show signs of “not having a good time”.
I have enjoyed having Carrie as a judge! She brings a new perspective, having been an Idol winner before. She has great talent and I love to hear her sing. Why do non believers get so intimidated by someone’s faith?
Non believers have no problem saying or going against someone who has faith so what’s wrong with someone with faith expressing their belief and having an evening of some faith based music. I don’t imagine any of the singers were made to sing something of Faith if they didn’t want to.
Passover was the same week as Easter week. Why wasn’t their any songs expressing the Jewish faith? Many people have indicated that having songs for Easter was appropriate. I would have liked to have seen songs about Passover. That would have been a true faith based show.
I think Amerucan Idol is better for having Carrie Underwood as a judge because she understands the contestants better since was one herself!!!
I don’t know where you get your information but Carrie Underwood is a welcome change to American Idol. Hollywood is changing right before our eyes. I saw another reality show bring out Christianity. It was Amazing race. When one of the things they had to do before getting to the finish line was to break a code from John 1:1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” I for one am happy to see this. Let’s praise God for all the good that is happening! Let’s let God take care of the rest!
So many of the contestants have gospel singing in their experiences. Their voices are best suited for such singing. I haven’t noticed any more gospel singing this season than before. There has ways been those singers auditioning, because that’s where their training has been. There are plenty of singers in this batch who are singing rock, rock and roll, jazz and pop to round out the talent. I have to say that there seems to be a great number of crooners coming along even on The Voice. This may be a trend. Carrie is doing an ok job. Each of the judges have their preferences. So did Katy Perry. She definitely favored pop singers. They always get a good mixture of styles.
I forgot to list country singers.
I think the Easter show was phenomenal! I really enjoyed it. I don’t think they critique as much because the people that shouldn’t be there are getting weeded out better. Don’t compare Katie and Carrie; they’re two different people. I think the contestants should sing what they are comfortable with. There are some gospel singers on the show and there is nothing wrong if a gospel singer wins either. I had a hard time voting because the talent is so good. They all will have agents after this. It would be good for the contestants to have props like they used too. Carrie, keep doing you, girl!
I love Carrie as a judge and feel our world has become so judgmental:( Please just stop.
This show has always had themes to challenge the contestants. This was no different and I feel this article has an axe to grind with Carrie. Uncalled for and unwarranted. I will need to research if the show has dramatically lower ratings after the wonderful Easter Show.
I happen to think this has been one of the best seasons of American Idol since the beginning. The fact that there are a lot of Christian based songs being portrayed on the show now from all contestants is awesome. I think Carrie Underwood has a fresh perspective to the show, and I look forward to seeing her as a judge for many more years. Anyone who thinks boycotting the show because of contestants and the audience praising and worshipping God with faith based songs needs to look at themselves because they seem to be dealing with their own issues not the shows the talent on this show is not only entertaining, but amazing I think of more people had God in their lives we would have a lot less Chaos and hurtful situations in our lives and also in the the world. We all need GOD in our lives. I will be praying for all of you.
The conviction of the Holy Spirit is uncomfortable. People are boycotting because her influence is is to stand up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They hated Jesus to the point of crucifying him. He suffered for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus told us the world will hate us, but remember they hated me first. WE ALL NEED TO TAKE AN HONEST LOOK IN THE MIRROR!
Yessss!!!!
Gospel music is just another genre. No one was complaining when they were singing Disney songs, rock, pop, or ballads. So gospel is not for everyone. Big deal! You don’t get special treatment if you sing country normally and they want you to sing on rock night. If your not well rounded then your not gonna win the competition. Period! If you can’t sing a gospel song on Easter or a Disney song to children then you need to go and give the one who can the chance to win it. This has nothing to do with Carrie or her faith. She doesn’t make the decisions, she can only make suggestions. It has everything to do with the SATAN in your heart that even entertains this kind of BS accusations. #jesustakethewheel
Passover was the same week as Easter week. Why wasn’t their any songs expressing the Jewish faith? Many people have indicated that having songs for Easter was appropriate. I would have liked to have seen songs about Passover. That would have been a true faith based show.
