‘American Idol’ Jelly Roll’s Intense Duet Brings Down The House

American Idol’s first-ever Artist in Residence, Jelly Roll, performed an intense duet on Sunday, April 20th, and it brought the house down. This was a special Easter show, and many laid it all on the line. Yet, it was Jelly’s duet with Brandon Lake that has everyone talking. Keep reading for more details.

In this season of American Idol, Jelly Roll is playing a very special role. He has mentored the contestants and is a loving shoulder to lean on. Jelly went from being in jail to being a four-time Grammy nominee. Therefore, his insight is incredibly powerful and necessary. Fans have loved him anytime that he has appeared, and some felt he would have made a great replacement for Katy Perry. Even though Carrie Underwood won that spot, there has been a lot of love for Jelly Roll.

During the Easter 2025 episode, which aired on Sunday, April 20th, there were so many breathtaking and emotional performances. John Foster broke down as he paid tribute to his late friend, Maggie Dunn. He sang a song that he had written for her, and with Maggie’s mom in the audience, it tugged every heartstring. Yet, it was Jelly’s duet with Brandon Lake on “Hard Fought Hallelujah” that had everyone gushing. It is always incredible when a judge or mentor performs, it is a special treat. However, no one expected to feel the way that they did after this duet.

Of course, some people were not thrilled with the three-hour episode and some of the music featured. It was a tad much for viewers who just wanted to hear today’s hits. American Idol Season 11 contestant, Colton Dixon, shared he never would have imagined there would be a “worship” night on the show:

  • Come on!!!! Love this. If you would’ve told me 13 years ago there’d be a worship night on idol I’m not sure I would’ve believed you, but boy am I glad it happened.

Fans Are Obsessed

After American Idol fans saw Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake bring the house down, the comments came in. Moreover, viewers were incredibly impressed with their version. Yes, Jelly Roll has performed his singles on the show in the past. However, this was the perfect night for the duo to sing their hearts out:

  • This performance – this whole SHOW – was AMAZING 🙌🔥
  • Great big stage for this song!! Spirit – have your way!
  • Crying all the way through this one!! Bringing the GOOD WORD to ABC PRIMETIME AMERICAN IDOL! Amazing!
  • 2 of my favorites wonderful performance. One of my cancer fight songs too 💪🏻

Many felt inspired after hearing the song and loved what the episode represented. Moreover, they believed it was a shift for good, but Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake brought all of the love.

  1. The most amazing and beautiful song ever written and Brandon and Jelly Roll gave a powerful performance! It makes me cry every time I hear this song and it’s played several times a day on Christian radio.
