American Idol fans are in for an Easter performance to remember. However, there are some crew members who felt that having the show was highly inappropriate. One of the judges felt strongly about having the special. What did the crew say about being against it, and why did they feel this way? Keep reading to get all the details.

American Idol Crew Did Not Want Easter Special

There were several members of the American Idol crew who did not think that having an Easter special was appropriate. The special three-hour show will be the first ever in Idol history that they have featured faith-based performances for an entire show.

Inside sources spoke with The Sun and revealed that while many were on board with the special airing, there were some who thought it was ‘inappropriate.’ Of course, the show is airing on Easter, which is a Christian-based holiday in which members of the faith believe and celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead after three days in the tomb.

Many members of the crew felt it was not appropriate to show because not everyone practices Christianity. However, the judges and many others were quite supportive of the show. The insider who spoke with the news outlet said,

“It’s the first time they’ve done a faith-based episode and the crew was polarized by it. Some didn’t think it’s completely appropriate but felt uncomfortable speaking up about it while others saw no problem with it as it didn’t focus on a specific religion. But some people who work on the show liked it primarily because of the religious aspect. Again, a polarizing topic. People felt different ways about it.”

Carrie Underwood pushed hard for the special to happen. She has incorporated religion into her music since the beginning of her career.

Underwood even released her own gospel album in 2021 titled My Savior.

Judges Wanted The Special To Happen

For the first time ever in the 23 seasons that American Idol has been on the air, this is the first time that they will feature an entire show based on faith performances.

All of the judges wanted this to happen but it was Carrie Underwood who was the most vocal about it. She has previously said that since moving to Los Angeles, it has been more difficult to express her faith openly. She has always shared how important her faith is to her. She said that every night, she and her husband say prayers out loud with their children before bed.

Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie will all take the stage to perform during the special episode. Along with their performance, there will also be Jelly Roll and gospel singer Brandon Lake taking the stage to belt out their song, “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”

Other performances will include the 24 American Idol finalists, Idol alum Roman Collins, gospel quartet The Brown Four, and Christian singers CeCe Winan and Brandon Lake.

  1. I think that in the 23 years that American Idol has been on live TV and it had a Christianity show on Easter Sunday was so very awesome. I loved it!
As for those that didn’t want them to do a Christianity show you need to pick up a Bible and get right with God before it’s to late because Jesus is coming back sooner than everyone thinks. All of these earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and wars the Bible speaks of it in the end days. So if you aren’t saved and you don’t live the way that the almighty King Jesus Christ did in his time on earth then you had better get down on your knees and pray to God and ask for him to forgive you for all of your sins and to come into your heart before it’s to late.

    1. Absolutely!! The show was amazing and I am so glad that held this Easter special! It is NOT about an Easter Bunny. It was about Jesus.

      1. It was the most uplifting show i have ever seen. Carrie Underwood performance was the pinnacle of her career. Also the other Judges and all the other performers were magnificent. It literally drove me to tears and I could feel the presence of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. God bless Carrie and all the others who performed. God is great Amen 🙏

    2. Was great to see and hear these singers perform Christian songs. We should have more of them. It’s great to see Christian singers making it further in the competition. Hearing Carrie sing How Great Thou Art was amazing!

    3. Most Americans are not Christian. What an offensive slap-in-the-face for the majority of us.
If you want everyone to buy into the Christian myth, start by electing a Christian president.

  2. I am all for it! The Bible says He dwells in the praises of His people! We need God more now than ever!

  3. I loved it. we should not be afraid ro show our Faith…in whatever religion you choose. It was an awesome show.

  4. The only reason I watched it and it was well worth it! All the performers were inspiring as well as the singers who were trying to stay on the show! Enjoyed it so much!!!

  5. In these times of negativity and hate, it was an amazing blessing and a surprise. I had recorded the show and plan on watching it repeatedly. Thank you so much!

  6. After having watched this show since its inception, I no longer watch it. I am most definitely not a fan of Carrie Underwood. And I think this ultra Christian episode was extremely disrespectful. American Idol HAD fans of other religions. Really disgusting. Not everyone in this country is a “Christian”.

  7. I think it’s great to bring God into it, we need him more now then ever and for the negative people in this world, …you didn’t have to watch it, that’s a choice you were given…

  8. Inspiring, love filled, Jesus focused. Filled my spirit and expectations for what can be. For those who did like it…”Get the behind me Satan.” By the way…you can’t have creation without a Creator . Bc and if there is Heaven then there is also hell. Some people have to go to Hell.

  9. Great for you. It was a special. Not everyone needed to appreciate, but was needed that the judges agreed.
Great line up for a special day.
    Thank you.

  10. I am Jewish, and I have no objections whatsoever about having an Easter show. I thought the songs were beautiful and deeply moving.
