There was always a connection between them. However, on the show, Elliot was married to Kathy. This stopped them from being able to pursue anything that could potentially happen between them. However, fans know if it came down to it, Stabler would want to choose Benson. Fans have been obsessed with them ever since the show started. Even though viewers did not get the romance they wanted in the earlier seasons, that does not mean it is out of the question forever.

Chris Meloni plays Elliot Stabler. While he was promoting Law & Order: Organized Crime, he revealed that he is always open to a relationship between Benson and Stabler.

“I’m always open to opening that can of worms. It’s powers that are above me.”

He then went on to talk about his character in the new season.
