Bachelorette Alum Ryan Sutter Shares Deep Thoughts
Bachelorette alum Ryan Sutter met and married Trista during her season of the show. His entire adult life, he’s been a firefighter. Along with being a husband and father, he takes pride in his work to help others. He is open about his feelings and never holds back what he’s thinking.
On Tuesday, Ryan went to Instagram to share another heartfelt, important post. This time, he chose to discuss his career as a firefighter. He talks about the weight of the world being on their shoulders. He wants to bring awareness to everyone about firefighters’ mental health.
Ryan shared it’s not about the car accidents they respond to or the drug overdoses. It’s also not about gunshot wounds or diving under ice. None of those compares to the feelings in between all these tragedies occurring.
He said,
“It’s the moments in between – the anticipation of the unknown. It’s the expectation of excellence and the need for its instant implementation. It’s the burden of providing hope in hopeless situations. It’s helplessness, disappointment and failure. It’s knowing there’s nothing you can do but trying anyway. It’s 10 lbs of pressure, 100% of the time. It’s the weight of the world…”
He Loves His Job Very Much
Bachelorette winner Ryan Sutter went on to share that he is relieved when he gets to go home from work. He also made it very clear that he loves his job very much. However, the weight he carries as a fireman is real. It continues to add up, and he finds himself needing to reset and take a break.
He feels it is most likely this way for all firefighters. However, he said, sometimes a break just isn’t enough. Ryan pointed out that firefighters are subject to high rates of cancer, divorce, and even suicide. Sometimes the weight of it all is too much to carry alone. He says he has seen it and in some cases, it ended tragically.
Ryan also pointed out that support from their community can go a long way. Support given by citizens is felt by all emergency responders. He ended his post by saying, “We love our jobs and accept the good with the bad. But sometimes even those whose job it is to help, need help….”
He also thanked everyone for their support. The photo he shared is from the Denver Fire Department. It tells a story all on its own.
