‘The View’ Why Did Whoopi Goldberg Show Up On Wrong Day?
Whoopi Goldberg showed up for her job at The View, but it confused many fans. The long-time talk show host usually takes every Friday off from the series. However, she showed up this past Friday, and many fans seemed confused as to why she was there. She ended up stepping up as the moderator for the Hot Topics segment as well.
Here is why Whoopi was on The View on her day off and what this means for the popular daytime talk show.
Why Was Whoopi Goldberg On The View On Friday?
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar have been on The View longer than almost anyone. As a result, they get some special privileges. One example is that they only have to work four days a week. Whoopi always takes off on Fridays, and Joy is always off on Mondays. That changed this week, though, when Whoopi was there on Friday.
Whoopi Goldberg joined cohosts Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin for the Friday episode. As you can see, Joy Behar was absent from the episode. Joy, who usually moderates the Hot Topics segment, was out. Whoopi replaced her in the role for that episode.
When she was introducing things, Whoopi immediately let fans know what was going on. “I know y’all are watching this and going, ‘What the hell is going on here?’ Yes, it’s Friday,” Goldberg said. Sara Haines joked that nobody told Whoopi what day it was.
However, Whoopi continued, “Oh, many people told me! But Joy’s under the weather today, and I can’t leave y’all hanging. So I wanted to make sure I was here. She’ll be back on the weekend View, streaming on ABC News Live. I’m so glad y’all are doing this.”
This was great news. When Whoopi Goldberg is not there to moderate, Joy takes her place. With Joy gone on Whoopi’s day off, the show needed her to come in and take the role on that day.
Whoopi Goldberg Subs For Joy Behar On The View
Without Joy Behar as the moderator, Whoopi Goldberg led the women through the topics. They spoke about Michelle Obama and Barack Obama and rumors of their marriage. Michelle said these rumors were false and that she chose not to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration and Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
The women also welcomed Scott Galloway to the show to discuss the tariffs. It seemed that Whoopi was on target the entire episode, even if it was normally her day off.
However, while Whoopi said she was there to cover for Joy Behar due to illness, another reason is likely. Joy is currently starring in her one-woman show My First Ex-Husband off-Broadway. Joy starred in the show (which she wrote) in January before passing the role onto other talented women.
She then returned to the stage from April 11 to April 13. Of course, Friday’s episode that Joy missed was on April 11, so she was starring in her stage show that day.
