Soap vet Daniel Goddard teased last month that he had big news. The cat is finally out of the bag. He’s joining General Hospital. Keep reading for all the details on the exciting new role.

Y&R Alum Daniel Goddard Joins General Hospital

Daniel Goddard left The Young and The Restless in 2019. He had played the role of Cane Ashby off and on since 2007. However, after divorcing Lily (Christel Khalil) there wasn’t much for the character to do, especially after the death of actor Kristoff St. John (Neil) in February 2019.

Last month the actor teased on social media that he had big news but couldn’t share yet. He was finally able to reveal his secret. He’s joining General Hospital in an exciting new role. According to TV Line, his first air date is Tuesday, April 15.

Originally Auditioned For Recast Role

Many fans expected the actor’s big news to be a return to The Young and The Restless. There has been speculation online that the mysterious Aristotle Dumas on the CBS soap was actually Cane Ashby. That is clearly not the case.

Daniel Goddard revealed to TV Line that he wasn’t expecting a return to soaps at this point in his life. However, his manager contacted him to audition for a role at the ABC soap General Hospital.

The actor revealed that he originally auditioned to play the role of Jack Brennan. The role of the WSB agent was up for grabs after Charles Measure abruptly left the show. Daniel Goddard shared that several soap vets, including Daniel Cosgrove, were also auditioning for the Brennan role. It ultimately went to One Life To Live vet Chris McKenna.

But both Daniel Cosgrove and Daniel Goddard were hired on General Hospital, too.

GH Offered Him New Role Instead

Daniel Cosgrove is familiar to soap opera fans. He’s appeared on All My Children, Guiding Light, As The World Turns, and Days Of Our Lives. Last month he added General Hospital to his IMDb page. He joined the soap in the new role of politician Ezra Boyle.

But he’s not the only new face in Port Charles. Daniel Goddard will soon debut on the soap as Professor Henry Dalton. He teaches environmental physics at the college that characters Joss (Eden McCoy) and Trina (Tabyana Ali) attend. But there’s more than meets the eye to the mysterious new character.

Daniel Goddard teased to TV Line, “He teaches environmental physics, and it seems there are some things in his past that he’s done that have left him in a position of some form of investigation.”

The actor purposely asked GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini not to tell him anything more than that about the character. He wants to find out as he goes, just like the audience.

Soap fans took to social media to react to the casting news. Many fans were happy about it, but others questioned why create a new role.

  • “GH needs new men.. I’m here for it”
  • “Nice that he’s in an entirely different profession from most of the characters. I just hope he’s new blood and isn’t secretly related to someone.”
  • “Could’ve just made him Jax…like he’s an Australian actor in his 50s why is he not Jax?”

Tune in to General Hospital on Tuesday, April 15, to catch Daniel Goddard’s first appearance on the soap.
