The country music and entertainment community was rocked when Ashley and Wynonna Judd announced in April 2022 that their mother, Naomi Judd, had suddenly passed away. It was later revealed that the country singer committed suicide after a long battle with mental illness. Ahead of the three-year anniversary of the massive loss, her daughters are ready to spill shocking family secrets. Keep reading for all the details on the upcoming Judd family documentary.

Secrets Of Country Icon Naomi Judd Exposed In New Documentary

The Judds were a massively successful duo in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Naomi Judd and her daughter, Wynonna, released several number-one hit songs and embarked on best-selling tours.

But in 1990, Naomi Judd shared that she was diagnosed with hepatitis C, which she contracted during her previous career as a nurse. She took a step back from The Judds during the health battle, though the duo reunited over the years for special concerts.

In the 2000s, Naomi Judd revealed that she’d been struggling with mental illness her whole life and was diagnosed with depression. She was extraordinarily open about her mental health struggles at a time when there was still a huge stigma around it.

Unfortunately, the mental illness won the war and Naomi Judd took her life at her home in Tennessee. Her daughter, actress Ashley Judd, was at the house at the time but briefly stepped out of the room. Her mom took that opportunity to end her life.

Naomi Judd’s daughters have shared many details about their mother’s death. However, they have more to share. A new two-part documentary explores secrets about the family that have never been revealed before.

The trailer features Wynonna and Ashley, along with Naomi Judd’s husband, Larry Strickland, and other family members. Country singer Reba McEntire, who had been friends with Naomi for decades, also takes part in the documentary.

At one point in the trailer, Ashley Judd seems to discuss the abuse she suffered as a child. “She had no idea what I went through as a child,” the actress said in the clip. A male voice-over can be heard saying, “My grandmother had two brothers who were predators.”

Where Sisters Ashley & Wynonna Judd Stand Today

Ashley and her sister Wynonna have had a rocky relationship over the years. In the trailer, Ashley said that she was “so proud” of her mom and sister for their success in the music industry.

But it wasn’t as great as it seemed. Wynonna Judd hinted that things were different off stage than they were on stage.

Despite past issues, the death of their mother has brought the sisters together. The documentary trailer features a scene with Ashley and Wynonna holding hands while standing in a field. They’ve leaned on each other to get through the heartbreaking loss of their mom.

”We’re both believers so we have such a strong connection now. There’s no drama there, and if there is, it doesn’t last as long as it used to. We’re older now and we realize we have only so much time left,” Wynonna Judd admitted to Us Weekly last year.

The Judd Family: Truth Be Told premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, May 10. What secrets about Naomi Judd and her family do you think will be revealed?
