Actor Eric Dane, who is known for his time on Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. McSteamy, is now revealing that he has had a life-changing health diagnosis. He has still been acting, and fans didn’t even realize that anything was wrong with him.

Eric Dane’s Shocking Diagnosis

People shared the details about Eric Dane and his surprising diagnosis. It turns out that he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Eric seems to be handling the news very well, though. He revealed the new saying, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

Eric Dane is married to Rebecca Gayheart and the couple share two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. They seem to be doing well during this time and she is by his side.

He went on to say, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.” It sounds like has big plans to keep on working during this time.

What Is ALS?

ALS is also known by a lot of people as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The people who suffer from it sometimes have twitching in their limbs. Slurred speech is also something that they deal with, which could make it hard for Eric Dane to continue to act. It can affect the ability to move, speak and even eat. This is a very scary disease. It sounds like Eric is in the early stages since he will still be acting at this time.

Right now, there is no cure for ALS so it sounds like he will just continue to get worse. Most people who get it only live for a few years after being diagnosed.
