‘Bachelorette’ Katie Thurston Addresses Mastectomy Plans

Katie Thurston Still Waiting For Test Results
Katie Thurston was reality TV gold during her time on Season 25 of The Bachelor. She presented Matt James with a s*x toy during their first meeting on night one. He ultimately didn’t choose her but she went on to find love on The Bachelorette. Her engagement to Blake Moynes didn’t stand the test of time. However, she continued to stay engaged with her legion of fans through the years.
Katie Thurston started dating comedian Jeff Arcuri last year. They get engaged over the summer. The couple planned to marry eventually, but their plan was disrupted when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. The two quickly married as a result of the diagnosis.
During all this, the Bachelorette alum was moving from California to New York where her new husband is based. That meant transferring to a medical team in NYC. The doctors at Columbia Hospital got different test results than the California hospital to determine whether the cancer was HER+ or HER-, which determines how aggressive the cancer is and how to treat it.
As a result, Katie’s first chemotherapy treatment was canceled until the test results came back. She shared the alternate plan she started in the meantime.
In her latest update on her “Boobie Broadcast,” Katie revealed that she is still waiting for the test results. But she also had something else on her mind.
Bachelorette Star Addresses Mastectomy Plans
Katie Thurston is determined to fight the cancer with everything she has. That means she will take any steps necessary to ensure her survival. She has already started exploring the option to have children with her husband through IVF.
In a vulnerable post on social media, Katie Thurston opened up about her plans to get a mastectomy. She still needs to speak to the doctor about it. However, she’s pretty much made up her mind no matter what the test results show.
She revealed that she was firm about getting a double mastectomy ever since she found out that she was Stage 4. She said that she will probably go with a different doctor for the mastectomy because she wants to immediately get implants and that’s more complex than her current breast cancer doctor’s expertise.
In a candid admission, she revealed that she originally wanted to save one breast to breastfeed any children she has in the future. She said it was “crazy” how she had to change her mentality to a double mastectomy.
Clarifies Breastfeeding Comparison
Katie Thurston knew that her comments could possibly be misinterpreted about saving one breast for breastfeeding. She clarified what she meant in another post. She said that she wasn’t considering putting breastfeeding over her overall health.
The reality star added that she knows carrying a child herself won’t be possible because of the chances of passing the breast cancer gene on. She simply meant that it was crazy how fast her life changed in just a few short weeks.
Katie Thurston is still planning on having a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery.
