Gene Simmons Defends Charging Crazy Amount To Work For Him

Gene Simmons interview with AXS TV on YouTube

KISS performer Gene Simmons doesn’t have a problem charging his fans to work for him on his tour. And he doesn’t care what his critics have to say, either.

The idea of charging a fan to work for him is interesting enough on its own. But many couldn’t believe the small fortune Simmons wanted to charge for the experience.

It’s certainly not a price that most people could ever afford to pay. But no matter how the public feels, Gene Simmons feels confident in his decision. In an upcoming interview, he’ll explain his logic behind the move.

Gene Simmons Defends His Controversial Position

In a recent interview with The New York Post, Gene Simmons announced that one lucky fan would get the chance to be his personal assistant for the day. But he won’t pay them for their labor. Instead, he’s charging the fan $12,495 for the honor of serving him.

Almost immediately, the rockstar came under fire for his decision. But he isn’t backing down. In a new interview, he’s defending his decision.

“I developed a harder skin and for myself, realized that everything was about the search for power and money, which is not a very romantic notion. But I didn’t want to be poor, because I know what that felt like,” Simmons boldly declared in a preview for his upcoming interview with the Ultimate Classic Rock podcast.

The 75-year-old went on to defend his views, describing his difficult upbringing. He was the only child born to a single mother who bravely endured the horrors of Nazi concentration camps and survived. His mother supported them by working in a sweat factory six days a week. After everything, Simmons knew he never wanted to live in poverty again. Power and money became his ultimate goals.

“Throughout KISS, fame was nice, but there are a lot of famous people who are relatively poor, that’s not a lot of fun,” Simmons continued. “But on the other side, there’s a lot of industrial types whose names you don’t recognize who are filthy rich. It’s better to be rich than poor, it really is. And if you’re a miserable f**k, it’s still better to be a rich, miserable f**k. That’s all I ever tried to do.”

The KISS Star Always Stands By His Statements

Of course, this isn’t the first time Gene Simmons has shocked audience members with his opinions.

During Dancing With The Stars Season 33, he appeared as a guest judge for one episode. Simmons gave high praise to each female performer but focused on their physical appearances rather than their dancing capabilities. Fans balked at his comments, particularly the ones he made to 24-year-old Chandler Kinney. Her dance partner, Brandon Armstrong, spoke out against Simmons’ objectifying commentary.

But in true Gene Simmons fashion, the rockstar doubled down on his comments. He insisted that he “meant every word.” At the end of the day, it seems the rockstar firmly stands by his opinions and isn’t interested in changing his mind.
