The Sweet Inspiration For ‘When Calls The Heart’ Character’s Names
Recently, When Hope Calls Season 2 showrunner Alfonso Moreno spoke about the sweet inspiration for some of the When Calls The Heart characters. Here is the surprising inspiration behind the names of some of the most talked about characters of the long-running Hallmark series.
Former When Calls The Heart Showrunner On Inspiration Behind Lucas And Nathan’s Names
Former When Calls The Heart showrunner Alfonso Moreno was recently on The Edify Show to talk about the upcoming season of When Hope Calls Season 2. He is the showrunner for this Great American Family series. Although he was on the show to talk about the upcoming Season 2 of the GAF series, he wound up talking a lot about the Hallmark series.
He was the showrunner for Seasons 5-7. That means he was there for Daniel Lissing’s last season. He spoke of how the Season 5 penultimate caused a lot of commotion because Elizabeth found out that Jack died. No one believed that this was true. This was never going to happen in the series. However, that season finale episode gave the opportunity for a lot of emotion. There is a scene where the widows of Hope Valley gathered around Elizabeth. This was intense and full of heartfelt emotion.
However, what was next was a fresh start. This was the first two seasons of Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally), and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). What Alfonso had not previously revealed was that Lucas and Nathan were named after his sons. He revealed, “They’re very happy about that.” In addition, Allie was named after one of his daughters and admitted that these are the “little prerogatives” a showrunner has.
He helped shape these pivotal characters that Hearties love so much. That he named the two new men who move to Hope Valley after his sons is very special.
Why When Hope Calls Is Different
Although Alfonso Moreno talked about his time on When Calls The Heart a lot, he did talk a bit about When Hope Calls Season 2. Comparing the two series, he explained that the When Hope Calls Brookfield setting is a smaller town. While WCTH has mostly lumber businesses and Hope Valley is bigger, Brookfield is a smaller town, with a lot of ranches nearby. Although there is just one car in town, most people are on horseback. That is the main mode of transportation.
Although he shared few details about the upcoming season, he did talk a lot about the orphanage that Grace and Lillian started in Brookfield. He shared how their experience as orphans was different from each other. This inspired their goal to create a different sort of orphanage.
