This past Thursday, as noted by Entertainment Weekly, the co-hosts on The View opened up the show with a discussion of United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the national security scandal. Things then segued into a Hot Topics discussion, notably focusing on Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce. The couple, who were married in 2022, finalized their divorce in 2025.

Many of the co-hosts weighed in on the relationship. Joy Behar touched on people growing apart with Sunny Hostin lamenting “this was supposed to be true love between Ben and J.Lo.”

Goldberg commented, “No, you said it was true love. You’re the only one who believed that!” Hostin then replied, “I think maybe it was true love. And then just something happened.” In between shots, however, Goldberg started to have a surprising reaction to the conversation.

At this point, Goldberg appeared to bend over, with her head dropping to the table. She appeared to be reacting negatively to the discussion, as she started repeatedly ringing a bell on the table. Sara Haines, who was sitting next to Whoopi, attempted to help her regain composure.

The ringing of the bell likely signified Goldberg’s call to move forward past the conversation. However, the divorce discussion continued, with Behar poking fun that Affleck’s former spouses both shared the same name. In addition to Lopez, the actor was also married to Jennifer Garner from 2008 to 2015.

After another quick joke that this made names easier to remember for Affleck, Whoopi called for the commercial break. When the episode resumed, the new topic of discussion was the new Hulu series, Mid-Century Modern, starring Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer. The two actors were then invited onto the stage.

For his part, Affleck recently opened up about his divorce with GQ. At the time, he shared, “There’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue.”

“The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no: ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”
