CBS police drama S.W.A.T. made history in an unexpected way. The show was cancelled on two different occasions and then brought back. Despite Shemar Moore’s best efforts, CBS hasn’t uncancelled the show for a third time. The actor shared a heartfelt final goodbye.

S.W.A.T. Cancelled For Third Time, Series Finale Airdate

Shemar Moore, the cast, and fans of S.W.A.T. were shocked in May 2023 when CBS announced the popular show had been cancelled after six seasons. The show regularly topped the Friday night ratings, which made the cancellation puzzling. Sparked by the star of the show, Shemar Moore, fans rallied, and CBS quickly changed their minds. The show was renewed for a shortened 7th season, which was supposed to be its last. Two popular characters –  Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson) and Jim Street (Alex Russell) – left the Los Angeles S.W.A.T. team in Season 7.

In April 2024, CBS changed course yet again and renewed S.W.A.T. for another season, despite previous plans to make Season 7 the last. Neither Kenny Johnson or Alex Russell returned full-time for Season 7. New characters were brought in, which fans didn’t love.

Rochelle Aytes, who played Hondo’s wife, Nichelle Carmichael, returned as a recurring character after getting cast on the CBS show Watson.

Earlier this month, CBS revealed that S.W.A.T. was cancelled for a third and final time. The show is on a mid-season hiatus right now but returns with new episodes on Friday, April 4.

Deadline reports that the two-hour season finale airs on CBS on Friday, May 16.

Shemar Moore Says His Final Goodbye

Shemar Moore fought hard to save S.W.A.T. every time CBS cancelled it. The former soap star encouraged his fans to be vocal about wanting more seasons. It worked twice before, but it hasn’t worked after the show’s third cancellation, at least not yet.

While he has hope that the show will find another home, the cast and crew had to finish filming the final season. Shemar Moore took to Instagram to share a glimpse at Season 8 wrap day.  He shared a selfie with the current S.W.A.T. cast.

Fans Beg For Show To Be Saved

Shemar Moore isn’t ready to say goodbye to S.W.A.T. and neither are fans of the show. They took to the comments to share their hope that CBS will renew the show or it will move to another network.
