‘House Hunters’ Participant Reveals Secrets Behind What’s Real

Many people finally understand that reality TV does not mean everything that happens is reality. Much of what people see on Real Housewives, The Kardashians, or Alaskan Bush People is scripted, faked, or edited to add drama. In a recent online discussion, fans asked if this is also true about shows like HGTV’s House Hunters.
The OP might not have realized that a former participant on the show followed the forum and had answers to all their questions. Based on their experience, here is what they saw as true and false.
Fans Wonder What HGTV Series House Hunters Fakes
A House Hunters fan said they loved the show but wondered what was real and what was faked for the network. The person then went down a list of items that bothered them about the show and seemed faked or at least scripted out ahead of time.
The OP then listed some things they felt House Hunters might fake on the show. The commenter said they first thought the house hunt was not real, and the participants already picked out their homes before the show films. The two “losers” were just staged for the show. They also believe the participants are paid to be on the show.
Third, they thought filming always happened fast because the post-move check-in happens in a few days. Finally, they believed the people on the show had to “un-move” to make it look like they hadn’t bought the house yet.
This led to a shocking comment by someone who had appeared on the show.
House Hunters Participant Pulls Back Curtain Of HGTV Show
The same day the OP asked their questions, someone who appeared on the show answered all four questions. It turns out that three of the things mentioned were accurate, and House Hunters stage these moments to make for good television drama – but not reality at all.
First, they said the assumption that the participants had already picked out a home before filming started was valid. According to this person, all three houses in their episode were “decoys” since their rental office wouldn’t allow HGTV to film their house.
Second, they said that the network pays the participants. The network paid them $1,000. They also admitted they heard the pay has increased since their episode. They also said the entire episode took one week of filming, eight hours daily.
However, they said the last topic was not always valid. They didn’t have to “unmove” since they didn’t use their house. They also said filming the episodes before “closing” means the people haven’t moved in yet.
There is one thing, though, that is true. Since the participants had never seen the decoy houses, their reactions to those houses were honest. They finished by saying each show has a producer, and they tell the story they want to tell, whether it is accurate or not.
