Heather Tom Is Celebrating 35 Years On CBS Soaps By Writing, Directing, & Acting In Bold And The Beautiful All-Female Episode
On Friday, Deadline reported that Heather Tom is going to act, write, and direct an upcoming episode of Bold And The Beautiful. The actress who portrays Katie Logan Spencer is celebrating her 35th anniversary. Moreover, she is doing so during Women’s History Month. This episode, which airs on Thursday, March 27, is honoring this day.

Along with Tom, the other actresses in this episode include Rebecca Budig (Taylor), Annika Noelle (Hope), Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), Jennifer Gareis (Donna), and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy).

How did this historic episode happen? Heather Tom shared, “Brad Bell actually came to me and said, ‘this is your 35th year. You’ve been writing and directing. You’ve also been acting the whole time, and I think that it would be amazing if you did all three in one show.” Heather has a lot of directorial experience including several episodes of Dynasty.

Heather’s response was to take it to the next level. However, she had to figure out how this was all going to work. “I was like, oh, that’ll be interesting! So logistically it was just, well, let’s figure out how I can be on stage acting in the scenes and then directing in those scenes. I thought it was very important and agree that it should air during Women’s History Month because it’s historical.”

All Women Episode Included Females Behind The Scenes
This historic Bold And The Beautiful episode is all-female in front of the camera. It is also all-female behind the camera. This includes a female stage manager, a female assistant director, and all female editors.

The Importance Of Mother And Daughter Relationships In Bold And The Beautiful
The upcoming all-female episode of The Bold And The Beautiful has deeper meaning for Heather Tom. “The mother-daughter relationships are so interesting to me and so formative.” This is deeply emotional to her because Heather lost her mother just a year ago. She added that she “wouldn’t be here without her literally and figuratively.” Tom’s mother moved Heather and her two siblings to Los Angeles to give them opportunities in Hollywood.
Furthermore, she shared, “So I got a little bit of her in there with Katie and Donna, who are sisters who lost their mom.”

Lastly, this episode is not a “standalone” despite its unique all-female episode. It is part of the current storyline, although they played with the idea of doing something that was standalone.
This very special Bold And The Beautiful episode will air on Thursday, March 27, on CBS.
