DOOL Hints At Popular Female Character’s Death
Days Of Our Lives fans are still dealing with the heartbreaking death of actor Drake Hogestyn. He passed away in September 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. The beloved soap star had been on the show for nearly four decades.
Prior to his death, Hogestyn worked with the DOOL writers to craft an exit storyline for his character, John Black. John’s wife, Marlena (Deidre Hall,) is currently searching for her missing husband. It’s pretty clear the show will kill John Black off because replacing Drake Hogestyn is unfathomable.
But now it seems the show is preparing to kill off a beloved female character for no reason. Theresa Donovan (Emily O’Brien) learned heartbreaking news from her father Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) on Wednesday’s episode. Her mother’s (Kimberly Brady, played by Patsy Pease) cancer is back.
While Shane assured his daughter that Kimberly will beat cancer again, actress Emily O’Brien hinted that Kim might not make it. During an interview with Soap.com, she said that Kimberly’s cancer is terminal this time.
“Stage Four. I know it was pretty severe the way we did it, and [Theresa] said ‘I can’t think about anything else except to just go and take care of my mother in California right now,'” she told the outlet.

Fans Rage About Losing Another Beloved Character
Kim and Shane are among the most popular soap supercouples from the 1980s. Patsy Pease originated the role of Kimberly Brady in 1984. She went off contract in 1992 but made several appearances over the years.
However, the actress didn’t return for Caroline Brady’s memorial in 2019. Former DOOL head writer Ron Carlivati responded to a question from a fan about the absence. He said that Patsy Pease was recovering from surgery and unavailable.
He didn’t give any details on the surgery. The actress revealed in 2016 that she’d been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The return of Kimberly’s cancer and possible death blindsided loyal fans of the soap.
DOOL fans took to social media to rage about the possibility that the character was being killed off, especially if it happens off-screen.

However, one long-time viewer said they would prefer the show kill off Kimberly over recasting Patsy Pease in the role.
DOOL hasn’t confirmed or denied what will happen to Kim Brady. The mention of her mother’s illness could be a way to get Theresa out of town. Actress Emily O’Brien is returning to the show this summer was Gwen Rizczech.
