‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Wants Big Star To Fill Kevin Costner’s Boots
When you are building a universe like the one that Taylor Sheridan has created with Yellowstone, it’s a huge blow when a legendary actor like Kevin Costner bows out of an iconic role. Based on the latest tea making the rounds about a long-awaited Yellowstone spinoff, Sheridan and company want a huge star to fill Kevin Costner’s boots. So, what do we know so far?
Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone Exit Threw A Huge Wrench Into Plans
As longtime Yellowstone fans know, Kevin Costner was a big reason for the flagship show’s success. The initial series laid the groundwork for the world-building that Taylor Sheridan would eventually do in exploring the history of the Dutton family.
Sheridan has been able to do just that with spinoffs like 1883 and 1923, however, if it were not for the success of Yellowstone, this is likely a universe that never would have been built, and a lot of the credit for that goes to Kevin Costner and his commanding portrayal of John Dutton.
However, due to contract disputes and other issues, Kevin Costner did not participate in the final season of Yellowstone, with John Dutton’s character being killed off instead. While the show and the universe have carried on, Costner leaving his iconic role threw a major wrench into plans.
Yellowstone Spinoff Eyeing Another Big Star To Fill Kevin Costner Void
Yellowstone and its spinoffs have a history of casting big-name actors to fill major roles. Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw were in 1883, while Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are in 1923. It turns out, when it comes to the new spinoff featuring the continuation of Rip and Beth’s story, production wants another high-profile actor of Kevin Costner’s caliber to join the show.
The latest reports suggest that this new spinoff is looking for a “Kevin Costner-type” to join the show. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, and the spinoff will begin filming this summer. However, it will be interesting to see what other high-profile actor this new project will attract.
Yellowstone: Beth And Rip Are Fan Favorites
With how much chemistry Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser brought to the roles of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, it’s not surprising that these actors and their characters became favorites among the fanbase.
At this time, the only thing known for sure about this upcoming Yellowstone Rip and Beth spinoff is that it will continue the storyline following what happened at the end of Season 5. In addition, with some of the big names that Taylor Sheridan has already been able to attract to his Yellowstone universe, the odds are good that he will be able to secure another big name to fill Kevin Costner’s boots in the upcoming spinoff.
