On Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, TLC launched their new reality series, Jay & Pamela. It revolves around a little couple, Jay Manuel and Pamela Chavez, who both have osteogenesis imperfecta type 3. With this genetic disorder, they can live a full lifespan which is great. However, the biggest struggles with OI are extreme bone fragility and multiple fractures. At the same time, Jay is also transgender so that adds another layer to their story. Yet, it does not faze them as they are newlyweds and looking to the future. It is more than just a lifetime commitment but expanding their family.
With Jay being twenty-eight and Pamela being 30, they want to explore having a baby of their own. Of course, they have a lot of roadblocks in their way. Yes, they have a genetic disorder but with Jay being transgender, there is a lot to consider. However, this is something that they really want but are also aware they could pass their genes down to a child. It can be traumatic as they have very brittle bones and the couple has broken over 400 of them. So, how does that affect their decision?

Couples who have the disorder that the Jay & Pamela stars have can have children. More so, Pamela Chavez could technically carry her own baby if she chose, based on how bad her OI is. However, since they both have OI, there is just a 50% chance that they can successfully conceive. They have talked about taking this leap and it is an ongoing discussion. There is a lot to think about and mull over before they are to make such a massive commitment. To calm their parental urges, they have a pup named Cheddar.
