There’s been a lot of chatter in Bachelor Nation about ABC putting The Bachelorette on pause ahead of its 22nd season. Nick Viall is the latest alum to weigh in on what he’s heard about the shocking decision. Keep reading to find out more about his latest comments.

The Bachelorette Won’t Air This Year

Bachelor Nation viewers were excited to watch Jenn Tran’s journey on Season 21 of The Bachelorette. She was a contestant on Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor. Jenn was named the franchise’s first Asian-American Bachelorette lead after failing to find love with Joey.

Unfortunately, her season was marred by on-screen drama between her suitors and online rumors about some of the contestants. She ended up getting her happily ever after with Devin Strader in the season finale… or so she thought.

Before viewers could watch the sweet proposal, Jesse Palmer announced on the After The Final Rose special that Jenn and Devin had already broken up. She revealed some shocking details about the split, including allegations that he dumped her in a short phone call just weeks before the finale was set to air.

It was subsequently revealed that Devin actually had a really sketchy past that the show either didn’t find during background checks or ignored. The information put a damper on Jenn’s season and threw the franchise into chaos.

Many fans believe Jenn’s disastrous season was behind ABC’s reason for putting The Bachelorette on pause. The network announced last month that the spinoff won’t air in 2025. They didn’t reveal yet what – if anything – will replace the summer show.

Nick Viall Says Bachelorette Lead Was Chosen Before Pause

According to a few Bachelor Nation alums, ABC was deep into plans for the next Bachelorette season up until the time they put the season on pause. Former Bachelor Nick Viall is the latest to share what he’d heard about the next season.

He revealed on his Viall Files podcast that the show was close to casting a Season 22 Bachelorette lead. He said it was someone from an older Bachelor season. When he found out who it was, he said he was “really disappointed they decided not to move forward with it.”

Nick Viall stopped short of revealing who he heard was in talks to be the lead. He did say that it would have been “awesome.” What Nick said corroborates Rachel Recchia saying she heard the show had cast someone for Season 22.

Ben Higgins previously claimed that Joey Graziadei’s contestant Maria Georgas was planned as the next Bachelorette. However, Nick Viall made it sound like it was someone from an older Bachelor season, not a recent one.

Will The Spinoff Return?

The fallout of The Bachelorette pause included the firing of many crew members and two producers resigning. None of that bodes well for the show to return any time soon.

But the only thing known for sure is that Bachelor In Paradise will return for Season 10 this year. It was put on pause last year after poor ratings for Season 9. ABC has yet to reveal when it will return, though.

Do you think The Bachelorette is done for good or will return next year? Sound off in the comments.
