Wendy Williams’ Judge Wants More Restrictions

Wendy Williams has spoken out about her life under a guardianship, and within a New York City assisted living facility, with various outlets in recent months. However, a judge reportedly desires to transfer the star to a place with tighter restrictions. Notably, sources reportedly close to Williams have spoken out about the story.
The Judge Reportedly Questioned How Much ‘Independence’ Wendy Williams Can Handle
The former host of The Wendy Williams Show has been living under her current guardianship following a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. Since then, she has been living at a New York City assisted living facility identified as the Coterie.
However, the star herself has spoken out about her situation in recent months. Talking with various outlets, Williams notably spoke with ABC News and the radio podcast series, The Breakfast Club.

According to TMZ, a judge involved with Williams’ case is unhappy with the star’s “behavior.” Reportedly, the judge even wants to place her in another facility with even more restrictions.
According to the publication, Judge Lisa Sokoloff sent an email to Williams’ lawyer discussing the former talk show host. Notably, the judge brought up an earlier hearing in which she had ordered Williams to be sent to another facility.
Reportedly, Williams’ lawyer spoke out against the idea, feeling it would be wrong to move her to the more restrictive facility. The judge is reported to have written, “I have always contended that [Wendy] will be given the independence she can handle. I question how well she has handled the independence she has been given.”
According to TMZ, sources have shared that the judge is unhappy with how Williams has been speaking to media about her situation. Allegedly, the judge has even warned Williams about speaking to the media.
It was not initially made clear why the judge did not like Williams speaking out about her situation. However, Sokoloff reportedly issued another email to Williams’ lawyer, warning, “Tell your client that if she wants a jury, she should refrain from trying to poison the jury pool.”
People Reportedly Close To Williams Also Discussed The Situation
At this time, Williams has said she feels like she’s living like a prisoner in Coterie. This contradicts claims from her guardian’s lawyer that claims she is free to come and go as she pleases.
Notably, Williams has claimed that she cannot leave the fifth floor memory unit without an attendant allowing her to use the elevator. According to TMZ, a facility staffer claimed that Williams cannot receive phone calls. It was also claimed she has no internet access and is rarely allowed visitors.

As previously reported, Williams earned a perfect score for a competency test while at Lenox Hill Hospital. Williams is said to currently be at the hospital, with doctors performing more tests.
According to the publication, the judge wrote, “The hospital wants to discharge her. Ms. Morrissey [the guardian] has facilities who, despite her behavior, are willing to assess her. She needs to go back to the Coterie until a new facility can be found.”
Sources close to Williams reportedly told TMZ that the former talk show host risks losing more freedom. The publication also shared the following statement, “This is pure retaliation for Wendy speaking up for herself to get out of an abusive guardianship.”
