Zoe McGrady’s Hometown Date

Typically during Bachelor Hometown dates, the lead meets the parents and family of their final three women. But Zoe McGrady’s journey to Hometown was a bit different. She never had a one-on-one date with Grant Ellis before his visit to her hometown. And then she took him to New York City, which wasn’t where she grew up but where she felt the most at home.

Instead of meeting her parents, Grant met Zoe’s sister Faith, her Aunt Cherise, Uncle Dave, and a few of her close friends. Zoe explained to Grant that her parents aren’t part of her life after a rough upbringing. But there’s actually much more to the story and Zoe is ready to share that with the world.

She Opens Up About Going No-Contact With Adoptive Parents

Zoe McGrady took to TikTok to share a vulnerable and heart-wrenching video about her childhood. She explained that her biological mother was an addict and was forced to give her up by CPS. A few years later, she was adopted into a white family. They also adopted another child, Faith.

The Bachelor contestant revealed that she’s not in contact with her adoptive parents and wanted to explain why. She said that it was glossed over on the show and presented in a lighthearted way. However, it wasn’t lighthearted at all. She delved into some pretty heavy stuff about her childhood. Some readers might find the details upsetting and should proceed with caution.

Details Child Abuse

Zoe McGrady shared personal details about what it was like growing up in an abusive home. She said that her adoptive parents were both mentally and physically abusive. Zoe candidly revealed that she was called all kinds of names, including the “B-word” and the “C-word.”

Even worse, she was often the victim of physical abuse. She shared memories of getting hit for the most minor infractions, including her facial expressions. She recounted the time she got slapped in front of other kids at school because she wore her sister’s shoes to school. Her sister told her she could wear the shoes but Zoe still suffered abuse over it.

She revealed that the physical abuse lessened as she grew taller and stronger. However, at that point, it became a domestic abuse situation between her parents. Zoe said that she and her sister witnessed things no child should see.

The mental abuse continued when she was in college. She revealed that she often woke up in the middle of the night to “paragraphs and paragraphs” of abusive texts from her adoptive parents. She eventually cut off all contact and is the happiest she’s ever been.

Bachelor Nation fans took to social media to show support for Zoe.

  • “She’s so brave to share all of this. I can’t even imagine how strong she must be to get through it and cut off that contact.”
  • “It’s insane that Zoe is in the F3 and we know almost nothing about her. She clearly is an incredibly resilient woman who has overcome a lot.”
  • “Awful. She’s been through so much. And going on the Bachelor and reliving some of that to “bond” with your lead has to be traumatic.”
  • “I really appreciate her opening like this and being so vulnerable”
  • “My heart hurts for her. I hope people stop making comments about her facial expressions. Based on what she said here she obviously had to learn to keep her face a certain way to keep from being abused.”

Zoe McGrady said that she is open to reconciling with her parents if they put in the work to change their behavior. She is still very close with her sister and other family members. Keep watching The Bachelor to see if she finds love with Grant Ellis.
