Carrie Underwood Has Been A Part Of American Idol In Various Ways Since Her Season 4 Win

Back in 2005, Underwood competed on and won American Idol‘s fourth season. Since then, Underwood has had a prominent career in the country music scene.

However, Underwood would never forget her American Idol roots. Over the years, she has covered tracks for the series, gave performances, and even served as a mentor for other contestants. Starting with the twenty-third season, Underwood ultimately returned to the series as a judge, taking on the role from Katy Perry.

Speaking with The U.S. Sun, an inside source recently discussed what things were like for Underwood on set. The publication opened up discussing Underwood’s recent performance of “America the Beautiful” for President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

As it was noted, issues with music saw Underwood perform acapella. Within a few days, she met up with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to film Hollywood Week for American Idol.

According to the source, Underwood remained professional on set following her inaugural performance. As the source noted, “Carrie has been polite but distant from the rest of the crew. ”

The source mused that Underwood is taking time to adjust in her new role, since she’s working with seasoned co-workers. They noted, Everyone knows Lionel and Luke better, they have been here longer and are closer with the crew. Carrie has been very kind to everyone on set but she does seem more reserved.”

The source also noted that crew members were instructed “not bring up the inauguration under any circumstances.” This especially included asking Underwood questions about her performance.

However, the source clarified that this order did not come from Underwood herself. The idea was reportedly to keep things “lighthearted” on set.

The insider continued, “It’s not just the inauguration. It’s Hollywood week which is a lot of moving parts.”

The Source Also Touched On The New Judge’s Energy On The Show

“The production team has to go film in Hawaii next week, so that can be stressful. All these things take a toll so producers want to do everything they can to make sure every person on the team feels comfortable and supported”

It was noted that filming for American Idol’s Showstoppers round in January was notable for a variety of reasons. It was the first time Underwood was seen since the inauguration, in addition to filming in front of a live audience. The insider assured that she was enthusiastically announced when she appeared on stage.

Underwood was given a relatively warm welcome by her co-judges and the studio audience. However, the source noted the situation was still “tense” and “serious.”

As the source continued, “She barely acknowledged the audience who kept chanting her name. The fans kept yelling ‘we love Carrie’ but she wouldn’t even turn around and wave most of the time – though she did a few times. Also, Carrie rarely danced during the contestant’s performances besides nodding along and shuffling to some rock songs.”

However, the source also mused this could have just been a case of nerves. They continued, “She did loosen up a bit by the end so she could’ve been nervous, especially since it was her first time judging in front of a live audience. But Lionel and Luke both had a lot more energy than Carrie did.”
