Viewers Say ‘The Baldwins’ Is Train Wreck
The Baldwins is TLC’s newest reality series, taking up the 10 PM timeslot on Sunday nights. Sister Wives previously occupied that spot but is on hiatus until spring arrives.
The show focuses on actor Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children as they navigate the aftermath of the infamous Rust shooting.
Sister Wives Season 19 hasn’t been overwhelmingly popular with fans. However, it seems that many TLC viewers prefer the incessant drama on Sister Wives to anything happening on The Baldwins. Since the new show premiered, few viewers have had anything kind to say.
TLC Viewers Slam The Baldwins Online
Not ever new TLC series is a smashing success. However, most generally don’t flop as hard as The Baldwins. Critics and average viewers alike seem to completely detest the new series.
In fact, many have called for TLC to pull the show and put Sister Wives back in its usual Sunday night timeslot.
“TLC thought we’d all watch the horrible Baldwins BUT…” one TLC viewer posted on social media this week. “Looks like we aren’t. Can’t we just get the last half of Sisters Wives Season 19 without having to wait for this absolute waste of time to be over? Come on TLC, the Baldwin train wreck is more icky than having to watch Kody and Robyn flirt with each other 🤮”
Several other TLC viewers admitted they’d tuned into The Baldwins but likely wouldn’t stick with it.
- “Yeah, I’ll pass on giving attention to Alec ‘Father of the Year’ Baldwin. I’ll never forget him calling his TWELVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER a ‘rude, thoughtless little pig.’ He’s disgusting.”
- “I tried to watch the first episode. It might be the most boring reality show I’ve ever witnessed.”
- “This show is an attempt to redeem Alec Baldwin after Rust. I’m not going to contribute to that. I bet they pitched this show to the other networks but TLC was the only network that wanted it.”
- “The show was ok, parenting style is really loose. What stood out to me was how old tired and frail Alec looked. I am sure Rust has taken a toll but geez he looks really bad.”
The Press Widely Panned Alec Baldwin’s New Show
The Baldwins didn’t impress regular TLC viewers, and it didn’t fare much better with critics. In a piece for The Guardian, Lucy Mangan writes,
“Whatever the underlying, distasteful motives the Baldwins’ participation in this may be, the programme may simply backfire on its own terms. Baldwin – an actor cast predominantly in parts that require an unassailable presence and suavity – is so much diminished in and by it. At times he is virtually shambling round, seeming bewildered, often in a grey polo shirt that looks stained, and muttering about his kids too much like any tired, older father. That adds to the authenticity, perhaps, but loses them much more than it gains. The Baldwins is dreadful, and makes the couple look likewise.”
