Shemar Moore Reveals How Canceled ‘S.W.A.T.’ Could Continue

S.W.A.T. has been canceled for a third and final time. But star Shemar Moore refuses to go down without a fight. He has a plan to save the popular police procedural. Keep reading to find out how he thinks the show could continue.
S.W.A.T. Canceled Again
S.W.A.T. has been one of the most popular shows on CBS for years. It regularly dominates the Friday night ratings. But for some reason, the network keeps canceling it.
The show debuted in 2017 with Shemar Moore as Sergeant Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson, who took over as leader of the SWAT team. The members of the team changed over the seasons but included fan-favorites Kenny Johnson as Luca and Alex Russell as Street.
S.W.A.T. was abruptly canceled in 2023 after six seasons. However, the network reversed the cancellation a month later. Season 7 was meant to be a shortened final season. The show wrote off both Luca and Street. But in a shocking twist, the show was then renewed for Season 8.
CBS recently began renewing shows for the 2025-26 TV season. But they didn’t mention anything about S.W.A.T. either way. When they did, it wasn’t good news. The network canceled the show for a third time and Season 8 will be the last.
Thanks CBS, Fans
Shemar Moore addressed the cancellation news on social media. He revealed that he had to break the sad news to the cast and crew. Moore posted a video clip on Instagram with a message about the end of S.W.A.T.
He said the show was canceled due to “money, optics, politics,” but he’s still grateful. “If you’re done — I know it’s about money, optics, politics — I don’t think you’re making the right choice. I’ll say that,” he said directly to CBS.
The actor continued, “But if you are done, I say, thank you, genuinely, honestly from my heart.”
S.W.A.T. was one of several CBS shows Shemar Moore starred on over the years. He got his start on the soap The Young And The Restless. He also starred as Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds for over a decade.
Shemar Moore Reveals How S.W.A.T. Could Continue
Despite the setback of cancellation, Shemar Moore isn’t giving up on S.W.A.T. He wrote in the post’s caption that his mother didn’t raise a quitter. So, how could the show continue?
He made a direct plea to Netflix to pick up the show. “Hey, Netflix, how you doing?” he said before dropping some facts about the streaming service. He reminded them how well the CBS show did once it started airing reruns on Netflix a few years ago.
“Let me just remind you that in a very short period of time, once upon a time ago not too long ago, it only took us about two weeks to go from number 15, number 12, to number one — hey, I said it — and then we stayed in your top 10, top 15 for about six months, nine months, maybe a year,” he said.
But Netflix isn’t the only option. Shemar Moore also extended the invite to ABC, NBC, and Fox. “NBC, Fox, ABC, hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue. Pick your favorite restaurant — I will pay the bill,” the actor teased.

As of right now, none of the networks or Netflix have shown interest in renewing S.W.A.T. But Shemar Moore isn’t giving up hope, so neither should his fans. And if the show doesn’t come back, he has many other opportunities.
