Along with that, an all-new batch of singers hopes to make their reality dreams come true, with a shot at superstardom. A contestant named Sonny Tennet blew Lionel Richie away with a stunning rendition of the legend’s song.
American Idol Coming Back With An All-New Season
Reality singing competitions are all the rage these days. While programs like The Voice have been around to scratch that itch, the OG is returning in a big way, as a brand-new season of American Idol is coming to television screens everywhere.
There is even more hype than usual surrounding this new season of American Idol, and there’s good reason for it. This season of the reality singing competition will feature Carrie Underwood as a judge, taking over the seat left by Katy Perry.
This is a full-circle return for Carrie Underwood, as she goes back to the show that helped launch her career. However, instead of coming back as a competitor, she is returning on the other side of the table, as a judge.
Idol Hopeful Stuns With Cover Of Lionel Richie Classic
American Idol hopefuls, before they can make a name for themselves or achieve their dream of etching their names into the history books, must first pass the initial auditioning phase and gain the approval of the judges to go on and continue to the next round.
It turns out, a contestant named Sonny Tennet tries his luck in front of the judges. The young man traveled across the pond from the UK to chase his dreams of becoming the next American Idol, and he picked a unique way to make a memorable first impression on the judges.
It turns out, Sonny chose to cover the classic tune “Easy” by the Commodores. It’s nerve-wracking enough to sing in front of famous judges, but, it’s even more nerve-wracking to do so while singing one of the songs of the judges, which Sonny chose to do for his memorable audition.

American Idol: Sonny Tennet Blows The Judges Away With Stunning Rendition
One of the hardest things to do when performing a cover of a song is to stay true to the original while also adding your own twist to it. Based on the acoustic rendition of “Easy” that Sonny Tennet performs for his audition, he found the perfect balance to do this, and he even blows Lionel Richie away.
With smooth vocals and slick guitar, Sonny wins Lionel over in his audition, with the legendary singer congratulating him for his version. Lionel Richie says following the audition: “You made my song, your song.”
