‘Bold & Beautiful’ Matthew Atkinson Done, Thomas Will Be Recast?
Fans recently saw Matthew Atkinson leave The Bold and the Beautiful as Thomas. Since then, however, many have held out hope he could soon make his return to the soap. However, a recent life update concerning the actor really has fans worried what will happen next.
Matthew Atkinson First Took On The Role From Pierson Fodé
Atkinson appeared as Thomas Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful from 2019 to 2024. Prior to this, he appeared as Austin Travers on The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2015.
Atkinson had taken on the role of Thomas from Pierson Fodé. However, he was last seen in the role around July as last year.
Since then, fans have been wondering if Atkinson would make his return to the soap. As previously reported, fans worried he would be leaving the series when he removed the series name from his Instagram account.
Added to this, during the December 30, 2024, episode, fans noticed that Atkinson’s name was also absent from the show’s own credit. At the time, however, it was noted that Atkinson was still in touch with some of his co-stars, notably attending their Christmas party. This gave fans some hope he’d return as Thomas.
Since then, however, a recent share from Atkinson himself has fans thinking he won’t be making a return. Taking to Instagram, Atkinson shared a photo after a flight, complete with a quick update.
As the actor wrote in the post, “This is after 12 hours on a flight. [Straight] to the hotel, 30 minutes to relax, then onto interviews and photoshoots. If you look closely, you can see that I’m literally asleep in this photo.”
The photo was notably said to be taken in Rome, Italy. Notably, the apparent trip to Italy comes out after the actor previously shared a desire to return to Hawaii.
Some of Atkinson’s co-stars also commented only the post. For example, Ashley Jones, who plays Bridget Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, shared a few heart emojis.
The Bold & The Beautiful Fans Are Worried What This Could Mean For Atkinson’s Return
However, Atkinson keeping busy in another continent had some fans worried that he wouldn’t be returning to the soap anytime soon. As one fan wrote on social media, “I must admit, this didn’t make me feel too well about a possible return.”
Some fans pointed out that Thomas could still return without Atkinson. After all, the character has been played by different actors over the years. As one fan noted, “They’ll just recast another Thomas like they always do. I’m still hoping for the day they bring back Pierson Fode.”

That said, some fans still shared how much they enjoyed watching Atkinson on the soap and expressed their wish to see him return. That said, other doubted he’d make a return anytime soon. Others, however, shared their support for other actors who played Thomas in the past. Some comments included:
- “I love this Thomas! Come back Tommy!”
- “Yeah, at this point, I’ve given up on him coming back. B&B is just not the same without him.”
- “I LOVE MA and I miss him dearly. He is such a fantastic actor. He’s definitely the best Thomas in the history of b&b (my opinion, I know). I just truly don’t understand this decision to cut him, that is of course unless he wanted to leave. The show was truly better with him in it.”
- “Matthew was the best Thomas they have had.”
- “MA is Thomas just like JMW is Steffy. It’s not like in the old days with the revolving Thomas’s. He’s made a positive impact on this character and this show. He needs to come back. And Douglas too!”
