Erin And Ben Napier Shares Why HGTV Chooses Small Towns
Erin and Ben Napier are bringing fans more of HGTV’s Home Town Takeover with its new season. Recently, they spoke out about what it was like working on the latest season. During the conversation, they touched on why the network chooses places like the one they’re visiting.
Erin, Ben, & Their Daughters Met With Locals During Their New Season Of HGTV’s Home Town Takeover
With this recent season, Erin and Ben Napier had four months to add their special touch to Sebring, Florida. Notably, the town had been impacted by hurricane damage.
This required the couple to work on over a dozen renovation projects for various places. The two got involved with renovating homes, local businesses, and even public spaces.
Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment, the couple also touched one aspect on working on the show: bringing their daughters, Mae and Helen, along for the ride. The publication noted the girls even got to speak with local residents in Sebring.
As Erin noted, “I hope our girls see that the reason we get up and go to work every day. And the reason it matters so much, is that these small towns in America are the flavor of America.”
“Whether it’s Laurel [Miss., where the Napiers live] or Fort Morgan, all of them have something very special to offer in the American experience. I hope [our daughters] don’t feel like they can only live their dream in a big city, because that’s just not the case.”
“You can have the dream wherever you are, especially in such a connected age when you have access to the internet. You can live in any small town in America and live the life you want. And that’s what I’m excited about, that we can tell that story.”
Ben Also Touched On The Reason HGTV Picks Places Like Sebring
For his part, Ben agreed with his wife’s statements. As he mused, “Everybody who has children wants their children to see and understand what it is they do.”
“For Erin and I, we have a very weird job for people who live in small town Mississippi. And so getting to take them, they come to work with us every now and then, but they don’t see the big impact of it. Laurel has been great since as long as they can remember. They don’t remember the days when every building, every business was shuttered.”
As mentioned, the family got to meet and talk with locals during their time in the historic town. The couple soon took note of the pride the locals have in their town.
Ben shared this may very well be why HGTV picks places like this. As he noted, “The reason that HGTV chooses these towns is because there are people there who are already trying to make it the best place ever.” He continued, “That’s the only way that we can go in and do what we do is to find those people and work with them.”
Calling the locals “self-sacrificing,” Erin added, “These are not people who are ever gonna fix up houses for themselves. The people that love them put their name in the running and that’s how we find these people.”
