‘When Calls The Heart’ Jack Wagner Shares Surprise Secret To Show’s Success
When Calls The Heart star Jack Wagner recently spoke about the success of his series and credits his on-screen love interests. However, he also took a moment to share the success of Hallmark’s longest-running series. What does he say is the secret to success for WCTH?
Jack Wagner Reveals The Secret To The WCTH, Hallmark Long-Running Series’ Success
In a recent interview with Us Magazine, Jack Wagner spoke about working with certain scene partners such as his former fiancée, Heather Locklear. After giving Heather credit for making those Melrose Place scenes sizzle, he then took a little detour and shared the secret the success of When Calls The Heart. He credits Erin Krakow, someone who he has been a scene partner with many times, although they have never been love interests.
I think the success of [When Calls The Heart] has to do with Erin Krakow, our lead actress. I’ve always felt that way about any show that I’ve been on. It was Heather from Melrose, it was Bold and the Beautiful with Katherine Kelly Lang.
This was quite a compliment to Erin Krakow! It is a great honor to be credited as the secret to the success of a series.
When Calls The Heart Star Was Forced To Carry Series
What Jack Wagner did not elaborate on was how Erin Krakow has been forced to carry the series due to two main departures. Firstly, when Daniel Lissing left the series after Season 5, this was a huge deal. Dan, Erin, and Lori Loughlin had a post-season interview as killing off Jack Thornton was shocking. However, Brian Bird had said that they could not recast. Daniel wanted to leave, and they respected this and let him go. But, they made sure he was gone so that Elizabeth would have other adventures and find love again.
The first season without Daniel LIssing was When Calls The Heart Season 6. Now, Lori Loughlin and Erin Krakow were the anchors of the series. Lori especially. She was the best known actor when the series began. Therefore, the new season was a bit risky. Hearties were heartbroken as the first five seasons was about Jack and Elizabeth.
But, Hallmark barely aired a few episodes when the College Admissions Scandal hit. Next, the network required that WCTH remove all traces of her in the remaining episodes. Now, Erin Krakow had to carry the show on her own.
Since then, she has been the main focus for six additional seasons, with a lot of help from Pascale Hutton, Jack, Kavan Smith, Kevin McGarry, and Chris McNally. Clearly, the show was at risk with the departures. But, they withstood all of these obstacles. Hopefully, Hallmark will renew the series for Season 13.
