‘Survivor 48’: Why Is Justin Wearing A Pizza Shirt?

Survivor fans have gotten to meet Justin Pioppi on the series’ forty-eighth season. Recently, fans were wondering about a “pizza” shirt the contestant was wearing. However, the shirt actually has an interesting story behind it.
Sharing His Story, Justin Pioppi ‘Looked Back Since’
Pioppi joined the cast of Survivor 48. The season recently premiered on February 26, 2025, on CBS.
Pioppi is originally from Winthrop, Massachusetts. On the show, he is part of the Vula tribe.

Recently, fans of the series have noticed an interesting shirt worn by the contestant, reading “Pizza.” Thanks to this, fans took to social media to ask about the shirt, all the while sharing images of the shirt.
As Parade noted, Pioppi, who has a degree from Yale, made history as the Massachusetts State House’s youngest legislative aide. However, a health scare concerning his mother brought him back to the family business: Luigi’s Pizzeria in Revere.
In an interview with the publication, Pioppi explained, “I am the manager of our family restaurant, Luigi’s Pizza.” He shared that the pizzeria had been around for “over 40 years. My parents have had it continuously. And they’ve owned and operated it ever since.”

The Survivor contestant explained what brought him back to the family business. He shared, “Actually, that wasn’t the initial plan. I went to school, went to college, graduated with a really great degree from a great institution.”
“And right when I was coming out, the pandemic hit, and my mother got really sick with leukemia. She’s doing much better now, thankfully, all good reports, which is awesome. But I had to step up when I needed to, and I haven’t looked back since.”

Pioppi was asked what inspired him to join the Survivor series. He noted, “This was always something I wanted to do.”
“Ever since we saw the first episode, my mother and I, and I saw a bunch of guys, you know, running around naked on the beach catching rats. And I was like, ‘I don’t know what the hell that is. But it looks really, really cool.'”

Pioppi also discussed the pizzeria in a promotional clip released by CBS. Noting he “never really had a gym membership,” he claimed that carrying 50-pound bags of flour on the job would help him in the long-run on the reality show. Pioppi also touched on his journey, noting he went from “Yale to making meatball subs with my father in the kitchen.”
Pioppi also shared that he wants to do the show for his mother. He noted, “I’m gonna play this game for her. Just give her a big check and say like, ‘Ma, for the first time in your life, you don’t have to go to work tomorrow. You’re all set.”
