'Live' Kelly Ripa Compared To Ariana Grande, Why?

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are known for having fun together while they work on their talk show together. Recently, while working on a promotion for the show, Ripa ended up giving her real-life husband and co-host a surprise. Ultimately, the story has Ripa compared to actress and singer Ariana Grande.

Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Took A Recent Trip To Oz

Ripa and Consuelos famously met on the set of All My Children. First meeting in 1995, the two eloped the following year.

Since then, the two have also become known for sharing co-hosting duties on Live with Kelly and Mark. Ripa first joined the series in 2001, with Consuelos officially joining in 2023.

As noted by People, the two are also already getting ready for their annual “After the Oscars Show.” To celebrate, they dressed up as characters from Oz for a pre-tapped opening skit.

Ripa and Consuelos were seen in the skit superimposed onto scenes from 2024’s Wicked, a prequel of sorts to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz., inspired by the Broadway musical and the Gregory Maguire book of the same name.

Ripa dressed as “Galinda,” a younger version of Glinda the Good Witch. Consuelos dressed as Prince Fiyero, who serves as a love-interest to Galinda and Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.

While working on the skit, Ripa decided to have some fun with her husband. As Consuelos recalled, according to People, his wife’s assistant told him that Ripa wanted her to say hello to actress Ariana Grande, who plays Galinda in the 2024 film, on Facetime.

Consuelos noted, “I was like, ‘What!? I’m not prepared for this.” He continued, “And she completely fooled me because I when I grabbed the phone, I truly thought that was Grande.”

However, something soon tipped Consuelos off. As Ripa added, “It was very funny because I could see he was secretly annoyed and doing that fake nice thing at first. He was like, ‘Oh my gosh, hiiiii!.’ And then once I spoke, his face totally changed and he was like, ‘Wait a minute…'”

The Co-Host Couple Also Teased What Fans Can Expect From ‘After The Oscars Show’

Consuelos teased, “It was freaky!” Ripa admitted her husband wasn’t the only one who fell for the trick. She noted, “I FaceTime’d my daughter and her best friend while I was in costume and fooled both of them, too.” She later joked, “It was great.”

As seen in the clip, Ripa goes by, “Kel-inda.” She achieved her new look with the help of makeup artist Kristofer Buckle and hairstylist Ryan Trygstad.

For his part, Consuelos teased that he added a twist to playing the prince, who is played by Jonathan Bailey in the 2024 film. As he joked, “I’m basically playing Mark Consuelos with highlights in my hair.”

During Live‘s “After the Oscars Show,” the couple will host from the Dolby Theatre stage in Los Angeles. The two will even speak with winner backstage.

Consuelos noted, “Being backstage is always really interesting.” He continued, “Kelly has said it before but when they come to see us, they’re completely out of their body. So, you really get those guttural reactions.”

Ripa added, “They’re very kind to us.” She continued, “And this year in particular. We seem to know so many people involved, so we feel a very strong connection to this year’s show. It’s going to be a fun night.”
