Jenna Dewan’s Experience On Hiding Her Bump

In an interview with Us Weekly on February 19, 2025. Dewan shared her experience of trying to hide her pregnancy on set. She explained that, as her pregnancy progressed, it became more difficult to conceal her bump, especially in the later stages. The costume team tried everything to make it work. “Oh my god, well I got so big at the end, they just put me under the covers in the bed because I think they all gave up,” Dewan joked. She also mentioned how she would hide behind counters or carry items like crossbody bags, Amazon packages, and plants to distract from her belly. According to Dewan, her wardrobe team deserves an award for their creativity in figuring out how to work around her growing pregnancy.

Despite these challenges, Dewan seemed to take everything in stride. She remembered moments when the team would try on clothes that could cover her bump well. “I was just happy when I was in a fitting and we put on a sweater or some shirt and we would all gasp and go, ‘OMG! You can’t even tell,’” Dewan said. At other times, when it was harder to hide her pregnancy. They would get more creative with scenes and her positioning. She laughed, saying that sometimes her bump was easier to conceal depending on what she ate for breakfast!

Jenna Dewan announced her pregnancy in January 2024. Just a few months before giving birth to her daughter, Rhiannon, in June. After welcoming Rhiannon, Dewan took a two-month break before returning to The Rookie for season 7. While she no longer had to hide her baby bump, she still faced new challenges—this time, balancing the demands of being a new mom with filming a TV show. Dewan brought Rhiannon to the set with her. The producers and creators were understanding, giving her breaks to nurse her baby.

“It was a juggle,” Dewan admitted. “She was 7 almost 8 weeks and I brought her to set with me.” She went on to explain that the timing of her breaks was important. She would breastfeed Rhiannon during scenes that allowed for a little extra time between shots. Though it was a lot to manage, Dewan was grateful that The Rookie had an ensemble cast. Which meant she wasn’t filming every scene every day.

Dewan expressed that she was thankful for the chance to bring her baby to set. She calls it a “luxury” that not all women have. She also said that returning to work helped her get out of the “brain fog” that sometimes follows giving birth. Even though it was exhausting at times, Dewan felt fortunate to have the support of her colleagues.
