Strahan is a former professional football player, best known for playing for the New York Giants. Since his retirement, however, he has started a new career as a media personality.

According to NewsNation, however, Strahan’s time with Good Morning America might soon be coming to an end. According to the publication, Strahan could be leaving with his contract expiring this year.

As an inside source claimed, “He will be out by this summer — he’s had enough.” Touching on his current workload, another source claimed, “It’s a lot. He wants to spend more time with his family.”

Strahan and his family have certainly made headlines over the past few years. Notably, Strahan recently became a grandfather. His teenage daughter, Isabella, was also diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare type of brain cancer, back in October 2023. All of this might have spurred him to consider retirement.

Speaking with Forbes, Strahan explained he wants his transition into retirement to be a gradual one. As he noted, “I won’t go cold turkey on everything, but I see myself slowly dropping different things until eventually, you’ll just find me on the golf course.”

Strahan’s Exit Could Be Just What GMA Needs Right Now, As Some Sources Suggest

The talk show co-host also highlighted the importance of time. As he shared, “Time is the one thing that once it’s gone, you can never get it back. I’m very conscious of that, being a dad. That’s what has led me to think more about the end of my career.”

As NewsNation noted, Strahan’s possible exit could end up helping Good Morning America in the long run. The series has reportedly been experiencing budget concerns.

Strahan’s current income, at over $20 million a year, could be too much for the series, with ABC News currently impacted by layoffs. A source had been reported as sharing, “Now producers are doing the work of two people… with one paycheck.”

It was also reported that further layoffs are expected at the network. In addition, morale is said to be low for Good Morning America, as it is currently lagging behind in the ratings compared to its NBC rival, Today.

A source continued, ”Money that could have gone to retain producers and assistant producers. “People who have contracts coming up are being offered a measly two percent raise.”

According to sources, there is already interest in who could replace Strahan. Such named include Malika Andrews, Rebecca Jarvis, Eva Pilgrim, Whit Johnson, and Will Reeves, many of whom already have some background with ABC News.

However, at this time, neither ABC News nor Good Morning America has made an official comment on Strahan’s exit. Only time will tell if he is truly leaving the series.
