Richard Goodall Reflects On Life After Winning ‘AGT’

Americas Got Talent: Richard Goodall

Richard Goodall, the winner of America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 19, has been opening up about his life after his big victory. Known for his incredible singing talent, Goodall stunned judges and viewers with his powerful voice and unique story. He received the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum in the first round, which sent him straight to the live shows. Despite his success on AGT, Goodall remains humble and has returned to work as a janitor at a school in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Richard Goodall Before Fame

Before his rise to fame, Goodall would often sing around the hallways of the school where he worked. In 2022, someone filmed him performing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and the video quickly went viral. This led to him auditioning for AGT Season 18, but unfortunately, he was eliminated early. Despite this setback, he didn’t give up and returned for Season 19, where he won the hearts of both the judges and the audience.

Goodall recently appeared on Chris Carrion’s podcast Tell Us About Yourself to talk about his life after winning the competition. When asked if he had ever dreamed of becoming a professional singer before auditioning for AGT, his answer was surprising. He explained that he never set out to be famous or noticed. Instead, he has always had a passion for music and connecting with people. “It’s more of a ‘music and people’ thing than a ‘hey, here I am, notice me’ type thing,” he said.

Despite winning $1 million on AGT, Goodall says that money is not the most important thing for him. He believes music is a way to help people escape from their daily struggles. “Music helps me forget about what is going on in my day-to-day life,” he shared. “Listening to music gives us a chance to take a breath.”

Goodall Stays Humble And Employed

Though his life has been “life-altering” and “life-changing” since his win, Goodall has chosen to continue working at the school where he has been employed. He explains that sometimes he has to take time off for concerts and performances, but his job is very understanding. Goodall added that while some people may treat him differently after his rise to fame, he remains the same person he was before.

As for his future, Goodall remains unsure of where his career will take him. He explained that he has no expectations and is just focusing on doing what he loves. “If it’s something that you love and you’re passionate about, you have to make time for it,” he said.

Goodall also shared that he was supported by the AGT judges, including Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara, throughout the competition. He even had the opportunity to perform with Journey in the season finale, a moment he will never forget.

Now, Goodall is living a normal life with his wife, Angie Vanoven, in Pasadena, California. While he may not know what the future holds, he’s content with where he is and is grateful for the experiences he’s had. Was Richard’s win shocking to you? Is his humbleness inspiring?
